Why are the squirrels gathering the green acorns so early in the season?

  1. They are hungry.


  2. Squirrels are happy to eat green acorns, among other things (seeds, berries, fruit).They harvest the "ripe" acorns because they will last through the winter.

  3. They know those acorn thingies will be covered in fudge bu the time they mature

  4. acorns develope and fall now.  if they don't store them now their wont be any to store in the fall because they are nolonger developing and other squirrles have stollen them already.

  5. Well first of all squirls never wait until the acorns fall off the trees. They always gather them when the're green.

    Also if the squirls are collecting the acorns so early you might have a colder than avarage winter. Another thing is that if the oak trees have more acorns than normal that means you could be in for a cold winter!
