Question:

Why are the wealthy such bad tippers?

I deliver pizza twice a week on Friday and Saturday nights. When I deliver to the working class or poorer sections of town I usually get good tips. But whenever I go up on the hill to the wealthy I get either nothing or a couple of coins. No one likes to deliver up there because of that reason.

P.S. we are paid by our tips not by the hour.

  1. Its the same on Halloween too. I took my kids to the rich homes and they gave less than the non rich people.I guess that's how they became rich, just thinking of themselves and not anyone else!

  2. I think this is partially myth.

For starters, rich people are especially careful with their money, This is how they got to be well off--by scrutinizing every single place where their money might escape easily. They probably don't see any consequence in not tipping, because there really isn't. Your company will still insist that you deliver to them.  If you try to impose your own sanction (being late, delivering cold pizza or worse, messing with the food) then they will either stop ordering from you or worse, get you fired or in the case of messing with their food, you could have criminal charges brought against you.

Poor people can be bad tippers too, let's be honest. But they probably relate more to what you do, how hard you work and you are probably more likely to run in their circle of people. You could be a daughter/son, niece/nephew of a co-worker for example.

I think this is just one of those things when you work in any business where you rely upon tips. You have your good nights and you have your bad nights. Your company could try marketing harder to the part of town where the drivers make more money by leaving flyers and doing targeted mailing in that part of town. It would be worth it to bring this up to your manager next time you have a chance.

But remember that the money the owner gets from rich people is the same as the money he gets from the poorer people, unless you are going to be hard to replace or turnover is a problem, you are probably stuck with this situation.

  3. they think they should not have to give extra because they think you should ignore everything and everyone but them.

  4. I s'pose it's 'coz they've seen how a lot of money changes your life and wanna keep it that way so there really tight

    p.s. very good question

  5. Because they want to stay wealthy.

It's too bad it's that way.  I see if often when I go out with friends and am often embarrased of how little they tip.  If you can afford to go out to dinner or have it delivered then you need to respect the people who are serving/delivering it and compensate them.  If you can't or won't leave a good tip then don't go out.

  6. they wouldnt have all that money if  they wee just throwing it around like nothing =P that sucks member the working class and poorer people are were you are too right so they know what its like maybe

  7. same thing thats been goin on for since civiliazation satrted w/currency. the richer get richer and poor stay the same same or get poorer. the wealthy want to hold onto their wealth so they can stay wealthy.  the wealthy are money grubbers and will soemday reach a crappy end. try watching

happy tree friends. we're all scrooged.

but being paid by the tip? where are you working at. i dont think thats very legal.

  8. Well thats kind of stereotypical, but i would say if someone is rich and a bad tipper it is because either

    1) they worked really hard for their money and don't think anyone else should have it

    or

    2) they got their money really easily and don't realize that other people actually struggle to make ends meet and need the money

  9. pretty much the poorer people know what it is like to have to work your butt off to make ends meet. the others dont

  10. You don't get wealthy by giving money away.
