  1. Because energy prices and the environmental cost of using dryers are high. They are a convenience, but perform a function that isn't really needed - clothes will dry perfectly well without one; it just takes longer. I don't have a dryer here and have stopped using the one I have in the US when I'm back there.

  2. Because clothes dry by themselves if you hang them outiside. I think they turn out feeling nicer, smelling better and easier to iron if you dry them in the air... that's why now that I live in Ireland I was adamant that I didn't want a dryer no matter what!

  3. electricity in Italy is real expensive and Italians don't believe is wasting anything and dryers is one of those there is no power plants in Italy the power comes from France= in the Summer month the Windows are open all the time- and the hotel turn off the air at night as to save power

  4. Because the weather is normally fine and sunny, so it's just a waste of electricity....

  6. I asked my mother why wouldn't she buy a dryer and she replied she prefers to hang then outside in the backyard because then she would avoid wasting time ironing the clothes because most of them just unfold themselves by being just hanged. In addition she said it's just too expensive to run a dryer, and therefore a waste of money.

  7. well in italy, it is kind of like a tradition to just hang out your clothes out and have them dry. when dryers were first introduced, no one really liked the idea of using a machine to dry them for you, and so everyone just stuck with drying them outside.

here in italy where i live, EVERYONE lets the clothes dry, maybe in others parts of italy they use dryers more...?

    baci!

    kisses from italy!

  8. Because most people prefer to hang their clothes to dry in the fresh air.  In fact, most people in the world dry clothes this way.  It's easy, healthy, economical, and the clothes smell so much better than from a dryer.

Edit:  I should also add that most people in Australia dry their clothes in the fresh air rather than in dryers.

  9. im sure there's a number of reasons. the italians (i can't speak for myself, this might be a total stereotype!) seem to keep things basic and traditional- that includes the idea of drying clothes on a line, its been like that throughout their history. it may also be due to high costs, or the country may not have a large supply that comes into the area. i honestly think that they prefer to do it the old fashion way- thats what i love about the italians!

  10. I have one in my home, but no one else I know does.  I may be the cost of electricity being so high, cheaper to hang the cloths. I checked out about importing a propane dryer---1800 euros!!!!!!!  I honestly think its just a financial thing..too expensive

  11. My mom never had a clothes dryer nor a dish washer.

People usually hang clothes is the bathroom or at open air if possible.
