And please don't say because The Lions are bad and The Red Wings are good. I'm a Detriot Red Wings and Lions fan. And I think the Lions just like all Detriot sports teams are going to have playoff seasons. The Pistons also had a good season and the Tigers are making a comeback. Go ahead and call me crazy but the Lions have a good team coming up here in 2008.

  1. I love the responses, just showing Detroit is not really hockeytown, just bandwagon-nhl-town.  In Minnesota if you asked why people love the wild, people would say, "we love hockey", not because some pro guys were spilled from other countries into our city and are winning some titles while making obscene amounts of money.  No responses like that here.  Showing why Minnesota trounces Michigan as the "State of Hockey".

  2. because the red wings are good!

  3. The Red Wings win championships. When was the last time the Lions won the Super Bowl? I don't really follow football and I could be mistaken, but I don't think they have ever won it. The Lions are miserable, while the Red Wings consistantly dominate (at least in the last decade or so). Some people are willing to watch a team lose over and over and over because they truly are fans, but for a lot of people, Year after year of terrible seasons can get a little monotonous.

  4. well i'm from toronto, and i support everything toronto even if it's bad so i understand you...but i gotta say that the lions and tigers suck!!!! but atleast the tigers are doing okay, and also pistons made it in either way even if not to the finals, so detroit sports fans ought to be happy.

  5. Because Matt Millen can't get good players.

  6. Because the Red Wings don't draft recievers that poduce no tangible evidence of success?

  7. why "dont say because the red wings are good and the lions are bad?"....thats how it is...people like teams that win.

  8. because detroit is "hockeytown", not "footballtown"

  9. Cuz the Red Wings are good.

I am not saying that because you said not to its just the truth.

Would you rather watch the a team that is maybe gonna win a championship or a team that is wasted away because of one of the dumbest GM's the NFL has ever seen?

  10. I just never have been much of a football fan. I enjoy the continuous action of hockey. About once a year I'd get a free pair of tickets to see the Lions and go. But I would catch about 20-30 Red Wings games a season at the Olympia and then Joe Louis Arena (I was young, single and had a good income too early in life). There is just nothing to compare to the atmosphere of an NHL game.

I still went to see the Wings play through The Dark Days before Yzerman, when that drunk Dale McCourt was the closest thing we had to an All Star player, and Rogie Vachon in goal (after Eddie Giacomin was waived).

And when the Lions played in the Silverdome, you'd understand why so many people became blasé about them. Not only was the team middling at best, parking, ticket prices, the attitudes of the employees and just about everything was bush league.

I don't live in Detroit now, so I cannot say anything about Ford Field. But the last time I was living there, they moved from Tiger Stadium to that Plastic Dome and became a bunch of pansies in pads.

  11. Hi,

well, the Red Wings are the Yankees of US hockey, and the Lions, well, they are the Mets.

to be a New Yorker about it.

PS i root for Detroit cause i love Motown, and if i root for them, then you definitely should, being your hometown, no shame there

i love the Wings cause they're awesome!!  always have been.  the Lions will win one day... like my Knicks, lol.

  12. Hmmm, sorry the only reason I  can come up with is because the Lions suck and the Red Wings don't. Although, In my opinion, football sucks and hockey doesn't, so maybe I'm not being fair to the Lions.  The Wings are pretty much the only Detroit team that can CONSISTENTLY get it done.  (note the consistently part of that statement, I know that the pistons and tigers have good years on and off) the Lions haven't won a playoff in forever.
