I come here to read about new ideas about the environment and such and see the majority of people are ignorant to the fact that we are going to be directly responsible for ruining the Earth. I think there may be too many selfish ungrateful people that simply just dont care, but thats just my opinion..whats yours?

  1. It's partly education but I also get the impression that it is selfish - maybe a result of the "me" generation or indulgent parenting - I'm not sure of the cause - but there is an awful lot of "it's everybody else's fault, not mine", especially amongst the US respondents.

The idea that people need to accept some personal responsibility and hence make even small changes in their lifestyles seems to fill these people with outrage (which, in turn, leads to denial, etc)

  2. Perhaps the fact that 32,000 climate scientists have stated that the theory of man-made global warming is bogus has something to do with it.

  3. I think you have to be open to opposing arguments. Believe me, this naivete is more likely applicable to the global warming proponents groups. Here's a site which does a good job of it.

  4. I find the people who believe this garbage are the ignorant fools that are allowing themselves to be lead around like sheep. What say you when the predictions I made a few months ago come true? Oh you don't know what those predictions are? Sorry, to hear that, since you only need to pay attention to the world around you to figure it out. My prediction is that we are no longer on a warming trend and are starting on a major cooling trend.

So far I have been right on with this prediction, since this winter and spring have been very cold in the Northern hemisphere.

I came by this thought process when I dug into research about what trigers our planets global temperature. First thing I discovered is that the sun is going through a cool spell and not giving off as many solar flares. The other thing I learned was that the oceans are actually cooling off not warming up.

Couple that with the jet stream pattern we experienced this past winter. And hold onto to your parkas you younguns are in for a cold spell you haven't yet lived through.

  5. You are not alone in your observation. So many are indifferent. They have this mentality that it's the government's responsibility to solve the problem. Each and everyone of us is part of the government.

They would only be worried when Antartica has dried up. God help us.

  6. I think it's largely a case of ingnorance is bliss. If people choose to believe that something bad isn't happening, then they don't have to feel responsible. What is easier? Saying something is real and having to change your easy lifestyle to something a little more impractical. Or just saying "it's not real" and going on leading a wasteful life.

It's sad but true that everyone wants the quick and easy solution and since there isn't one to global warming, they'd rather pretend the problem isn't there and hope it goes away.

  7. Mind if I answer a question with a question?

Why are there still so many naive people who believe Global Warming is real?

  8. Well, it's hard to say because we are not just talking about to save our earth but also considering about the economic issue, politic issues and etc. let's see USA government until now is not willing to sign the new Kyoto Protocol... But let's start save our earth from ourselves. In my country, there is an organization called Tzu Chi, they keep trying to do their best in recycling, reuse, and etc programs.

  9. "I come here to read about new ideas about the environment and such and see the majority of people are ignorant to the fact that we are going to be directly responsible for ruining the Earth."

It's arrogant absolutes like this that lead me to believe that there is little hope for quality science to continue.

    Ruin--noun

the physical destruction or disintegration of something or the state of disintegrating or being destroyed.

Are we ruining the Earth? No, we will surely "ruin" ourselves well before we ruin the Earth. Are we "ruining" life for all creatures? Surely we have had negative effects on our planet and life within in. Have we also had positive effects? Probably. Is it a net negative? Very likely. Are we ruining anything? In the real world, likely not.

Is the issue of GW "settled science"? Surely not, for our climate is a system of complexities and uncertainties. Should heightened levels of CO2 cause warming? Yes, they should. Can we give any empirical evidence that directly links CO2 to any warming? No. Could natural forcings be more important in the recent warming of the past 30 years? Yes. Should we pretend like we really know what exactly is going on with our climate? We should tell what we do know (or what we are pretty sure we know), but graciously admit uncertainties, of which there are many.

"I think there may be too many selfish ungrateful people that simply just dont care, but thats just my opinion..whats yours?"

Don't make assumptions--I have done a h**l of a lot more than the average joe when it comes to conserving and preserving our environment. And it wasn't in the name of global warming. Frankly, if we are going to do something to help our fellow man, we got bigger fish to fry--widespread poverty, malaria, AIDS/HIV, etc.

Surely we should look to reducing energy consumption, becoming more energy efficient, and living a more sustainable life, but GW scare tactics and government intervention are not the ways to do it.

  10. one answer. "uneducated population."

Global warming is real and there are physical and chemical facts to prove this phenomenon
