  7. We use the Gregorian based calender which had Bible-based weeks. The Bible said that God made the universe in seven days, so that is where the seven day week came from. It may have also come from the 28 day moon cycle and was divided into four weeks. Also it's because everyone accepts it as a unit of time.

  8. We have the week of seven days from the Romans who got it from the Jews who got it from the Babylonians ... and who knows who came with the first idea. But it makes sense because:

For a long time, the only calendar known to mankind was the sky, the passage of the sun and the passage of the moon. The moon has a cycle of 28 days. Seven days is that it takes for the moon to go e.g. full moon to last quarter: two events that were possible to describe with words. It makes sense.

  9. Many reasons are given for the seven-day week--probably it's the result of several of the following factors taken together: the four phases of the moon are roughly seven days in length; the Babylonians believed in the sacredness of the number seven; in ancient times, seven planets (including the sun and moon) were thought to exist (and indeed the days of the week were named after them). The Mosaic sabbath defined a seven-day period, and the dispersed Jews who observed it may have influenced the establishment of the seven-day week--it first appears in the early Christian era.
