Don't you ever wonder why car manufactuers put ashtrays in their vehicles? I think that they should make some vehicles with ashtrays for people that will smoke & use them and then some vehicles for people that don't smoke, cuz most of the time smokers roll the window down and won't even use the ashtray, so I think that it would make sense to make vehicles for smokers & nonsmokers. (You know just like paper or plastic like back in the day lol)

  1. 1 size fits all why build 2 cars for smoker & not> I don't

smoke and use it for stuff & things>

  2. they put them in there, because they don,t know who smokes and who don,t.i saw people toss their cigarettes out the window too, but the factory who makes the cars don,t know who does and who don,t.

  3. They do make cars without ashtrays.

And they still ask "paper or plastic".....so it's really not "back in the day".

  4. They are built in by most manufacturers because they don't know if the original buyer ( or subsequent buyer(s) ) are smokers or not.

However, more and more cars now come without them and if you want to have an ashtray, you have to order a "smoker's package" which usually puts an ashtray in place of one of the cup holders or somewhere else in the vehicle.

  5. Most people don't use the ashtray to preserve the re-sell value typically in the UK a car that has been owned by a smoker and smoked in will fetch less, and ashtrays and in-car lighters are hard to get clean to "as new" standards whereas the upholstery etc can be steam cleaned to remove odor. Although it may just be the fact that it's easier to toss your smoke out of the window when finished than it is to use the ashtray.
