Why are there chess pieces on the cover of Breaking Dawn?

They are a queen and a pawn and the pawn is red. It seems like all of the covers of the Twilight series have a meaning but I can't seem to find the one in this cover. Thanks for your answers :).

  1. When Bella was a human, she was weak and warm (red.) The white queen is Bella as a vampire. Powerful and white.

It represents Bella's transformation; because isn't that what the whole series was about? Bella's involvement in the vampire world, and how (and why) she becomes one.

  2. all i can say is that i think the pieces represent characters, and bella's definitely one of them. at first i thought bella was the pawn, because the pawn is red. red, blood, u know... and i thought the white piece represented a vampire, maybe edward, but it doesn't make sense because the white piece is a queen.

also, the red piece could be renesmee, because shes half human... bella could be the queen...

sorry, rambling. im not very sure

  3. the red pawn chess represent bella as a weak human... the white queen represents bella as a vampire

  4. According to Stephenie Meyer, it represents Bella's transformation from the weakest player in the game (aka a weak human who is always in need of rescuing) into the most powerful player (aka a vampire with extraordinary power).
