  1. Because 53 would be dumb.


  2. There are 13 cards for each suit. The Ace, being one, then 2 through 9. Afterwards are the face cards, the Jack, Queen, and King. There are 4 suits, which totals 52 cards, without Jokers.

  3. Because four of each card Ace-King = 52.
