Why are there flies and worms in my shower?

I think the flies might be gnats but I don't understand where they are coming from. We never see flies or any type of flying insects in our apartment so I have no idea how or why at one point there can be like 4-5 of these gnat-like flies in our shower.

Then my room mate picked up one of the bottles on the floor of the shower and there were WORMS under it! WTF?

How did we start a habitat in our shower?

How are flying insect coming through the drain?

  1. Drain flies.  Sometimes called fruit flies or gnats.  The "worms' may be larvae.  You need some serious cleaning,  and my all time favorite is bleach.  After thoroughly cleaning the ENTIRE shower with spray bleach, and getting rid of any and all standing water in soap dishes, cups, or any other garbage, pour a couple of cups of full stregth bleach down the drain as well and run water after the bleach has had time to sit for 10-15 minutes.  Then set up a routine to clean the shower regularly.

  2. You need to clean, clean, clean that bathroom regularly - that means once a week.  Use any bathroom product you like, but keep it clean.  I use scrubbing bubbles in my shower, but use whatever you like - as long as it works.

If you have an exhaust fan - use it every time you shower.  If not, get a squeegee for your shower.  Squeegee it down after every shower to keep the dampness down.  You could also wipe it with your shower towel.  If you can't get rid of all the moisture, you're going to have mold - if you don't already.

Get a shower shelf to store your shampoo and such on.  They hang over the pipe to the shower head.  They're inexpensive and available at Target, Walmart, etc.  Keep the floor of the shower clean, dry and don't leave bottles, wash cloths, or anything else on the floor.

Sorry, but this sounds like bad housekeeping habits.  Hope you can get it cleaned up and get rid of the bugs & worms.

  3. maybe because you don't clean your bathroom regularly.. cold, wet and dirty places attracts insects like files and worms.. its a nice habitat for them... you may want to look on the source for some ways to clean your bathroom properly..

  4. You might have brought them in with a dry product like cake mix.

    They hatch and fly around.

As for the worms, they like damp areas.

Pick everything up off the floor, and wipe the shower with bleach as well as everything in it -- bottles, etc.  Pour some diluted bleach down the drain and flush with water.  Be sure to clean everything in the bathroom with bleach, too
