Why are there more" wanted" than "offered" posts on freecycle ?

Because people live in hope and are greedy.  People always want something for nothing.  I particularly like the ones wanting a new car or brand new computer.

I was on it a few years back when you only saw a couple. Obviously it's been mined for free stuff to sell on.

That is entirely up to the Group Owners and Moderators. I will allow wanteds, to a certain limit, I also expect offers.

Just because they post a wanted, doesn't mean they will get it. But a wanted can also be an offer that has been forgotten. A wanted could trigger someone to think and realize they have that item and they were either going to throw it away or offer it.

So t*t for tat...we as Group owners have to watch the crazy and outlandish wanteds. If they get too carried away, I place that member on moderation and control what they are doing for a while.

I had one to come through and stopped it. Wanted: 3 Bedroom home w/3 car garage. And a pool.

After a while members catch on and just don't pay those folks any attention.

I've always posted more offered than wanted, but I imagine there are unscrupulous people out there who use the site and sell the items to make  a few quid.  Our site asks you to post an offer before you post a want.  One guy posted an offer of two bin bags of use Crimbo wrapping paper.  *wat
