  1. Bruno your an idiot congrats, second thing no they have not because the quran and islam are against it i dont now why ..... thirdly i dont now how they live there.tc

  2. First of all, there was a cinema in Jeddah 15 years ago. There were around 5 or 6 cinema theaters.

Now they closed all the cinemas because they don’t want to mix men with women. But many organizations are trying to open cinema theaters and they will one day.

So, the main reason is not to mix girls and boys.

This explains the good electronic market in selling Home Cinemas : P

  3. .......I think because religious leaders thought of cinemas as the source of lust, exaggeration and evil thats why they are banned in this country (except Aramco camps)......but on the other hand, there are several satellites and cable that are shown in TV of old english movies and other programs.......I really don't get the point anymore......lolz.....maybe in the future, cinemas will be allowed here to operate just like women to be seen driving in highways......

  4. for those who don't really know saudi arabia...we actually were among the first to have projectors and "movie night" gatherings that is equivelant to cinemas and movie theatres in concept years ago...before TV entered saudi arabia even.

older members of my family tell us stories about how the rich merchants of in the Hijaz used to have a couple of nights a week where they let people in thier yards and in the grand halls of thier home for a small charge to watch movies and orchestra concerts...similar to those in kuwait back in the days...

with the countrys development it was only natural for movie theatres to evolve and improve as the rest of life did....however certain events that turned things uside down in saudi arabia and gave too much authority and power to a group of people following extreme and rigid interpretations of islamic laws....these are the ones that kept on fighting the mere existance of those old movie nights in the name of islam and virtue (although every single muslim will debate that) until they actually created a law to ban anyone from opening such a business...how is this still affective today with all the satellite channels and internet broadcasting that puts the filthiest filth right in the heart of our homes? well, that's beyound anyones comprehension...

the cinemas and theatres in themselves are not important... we watched all the classics from olympia, singing in the rain , gone with the wind to one flew over the coocoos nest and the godfather trilogy and beyound...we watched great concerts and ballets from the nutcracker to swan lake...we enjoyed tv shows like everyone else...from the electric company to sesame st. and from johnny carson to the amazing huckstables...even the classic egyptian movies and great singers.....so not having theatres didn't affect us much....although it would've been nice to see all these on a wide screen with surround instead of enjoying it when we travel or when they finally made affordable wide screen projectors and tvs....

personally i hated going to movie theatres during my travels (i stopped doing that all together)...the seats are not comfortable, the place is filled with all sorts of snacks and drinks being crunched and slurped, people tend to be quite chatty..even those that came with me seems to enjoy making jokes and cracks only when in theatres....it ruins the whole movie experience for me so rather watch it at home...these days...not many movies interest me long enough to keep it going at home...i doubt i'll actually bother to go all the way to a cinema, buy a tcket and sit thru that for any movie out there at the moment...there are tons of activities i'd do...

for those who just "can't live without" cinemas and are fighting to have them back in saudi....you won't have to wait for long...this matter became so boring and obvious no one wants to bother and discuss it anymore....it's gonna happen...this year..next year or in 5 years...trust me, it is.

  5. Islam doesnt allow for it.

  6. Maybe an interpretation of the Koran. Anyway, at least the Saudi Arabs will not be dumbed down with "s****. Doo" and superheroes movies as we have. But they are missing the old classics with Greta Garbo, Humphrey Bogart and Bette Davis. I feel sorry for them, and envy them ironically

P.D.: There is a movie industry in several Muslim Arabic and Persian countries. In Cairo, you can still see many movie houses. And people do own vcrs and dvds. Careful with misinformation. Dead president Nasser, an Egyptian Muslim, was a "Laurel and Hardy" fan.. And calling me an idiot is a compliment.
