Why are there no ferries from south florida to the bahamas?

First, the Bahamas doesn't need, or want to handle the additional auto traffic.  I can't blame them for that.   d:)

Second, the distance is more than 60 miles at the closest point from Bimini to Florida.  The seas are often rough (because you're crossing the Gulf Stream perpendicularly) and cars wouldn't handle that kind of a trip very well without getting damaged.  My guess is that the boat operators wouldn't want to handle that much liability.
