Why are there not any World's Fairs anymore?

  1. World's Fair use to be about technology and innovations. Disney first displayed the use of animatronics (Small World, etc.) at a World's Fair. and it was that success that made him decide to use it at his parks.  the very popular pirates ride was originally going to be just a wax museum that had wax statues of famous pirates.  that was it. after he saw the reaction to the animatronics, he changed the idea for the ride. at that time where TVs were rare or non-existent. TV stations broadcast only during certain hours of the day and most people did not own one. not like today. most people have several televisions in their homes. now with television, Internet etc. there is really no need for a World's Fair.  


  2. I was wondering this too because I'm currently reading Devil in the White City which is about Chicago World's Fair in 1893. While there still are World's Fairs, I think they are just not as popular and ground breaking as they once were because communication is so much easier now, and finding out about new technologies is literally a click away.

  3. They do, sorta, they just call them World Expos now.
