Why are there not more older musicians and actors?

Why is the music and movie industry based around youth instead of experience? Shouldn't it be about talent, life experience, and passion? Will we ever have timeless artists again? It seems like the industry just pushes out teenie bopper non-sense with young faces and no real talent.

  1. Face talent tends to be younger, but actually the behind the scenes talent (directors, writers, producers, music producers) tend to be older and experienced.

  2. s*x sells. It's not about the art as much as the marketing hype. Let's face it, baldness and wrinkles will not sell as well as a dazzling smile and a perfect body unless you have a lot of money and can buy the PR machine to keep the illusion going.

  3. because you are not attending the right concerts and seeing the right films. But the reason why the industries are focused on the young is that they spend the most money on films and recordings.

  4. i agree that a lot of young people *cough cough miley cyrus* have no talent and are put into the industry due to family ties or because they have some other sort of appeal. do you really think miley cyrus would be in the business if her dad never was? no. she'd be a hick from tennessee no one cared about. demi lovato doesn't have any acing talent at all. it makes me uncomfortable watching her because her acting is so poor.

however, i don't agree that we should haved all old people in the business of acting and singing. be honest, would you rather watch an old, wrinkly, croaky person or a young, good looking, smooth-voiced person? and old people usually lose their talent. compare rihanna's voice to willy nelson's. i just think that young, truly talented people are better for the spotlight.

  5. It's too much to handle for most older people with the press following them around everywhere. But that's just my opinion

  6. because if there were older actors we wouldn't have aaron johnson upon us

  7. This is an economics question. The producers go to where the money is and that's to the 14-28 group.

To get them you need to toss in some s*x and forbidden fruit stuff ,content is not a requirement ergo.talent need not apply.

Actually things aren't that much differ ant today than they were in the 40's or 50's. Then they made "B" movies an industry and 'stars came and went just as today.

Thre new musicians can't be an Elvis or Jagger or Baez so they have to throw a few F bombs and titillate to sell their stuff.

Lets not forget all the drug overdoses of a to many really good singers /actors who never made it to senior status.

I think overall, there are many 'older' actors /singers , to bad the younger ones don't learn from example.

  8. Most older actors and musicians tend to stay away from the limelight now. Elvis Costello is still putting out music (and still has an amazing voice) but isn't forcing it on people like younger musicians.

  9. Most of the music and movie industry is directed toward youth, and for some reason they like talentless, pretty young people. I'm all for talent and experience but I really have to search for it nowadays.

  10. when a situation seems illogical, there is often a financial aspect to the scenario that you are not considering or which is hidden.

To me, the foremost reason why so many new youthful singers/musicians make a debut each year is that they can be easily controlled financially.  Promoters and agents get their cut and the performers get facetime and a promise of money later.

Older performers don't fall for this s**t, and control their image better.  They learned their lesson and are applying it.

  11. America is obsessed with youth & beauty.  It's sad but true.

  12. Let's face it America like the younger better. It really is sad. I personally like the older ones better. But it could be that their tired of it too. or because they know they won't be as great as the youth is today.
