Why are there people out there that still think under powering is bad?

If I turn my volume down, I'm actually "under powering" my subs. Low volume = low power.

How is this bad?

I think people confuse "clipping" with "under powering".

  1. they go to best buy, and talk about it.

  2. Because people that don't know much beleive what other people that don't know much about audio say which leads people to believe false terms.

I thought underpowering was bad cause the guy at bestbuy told me, then sparky explained and like you said, giving a sub 200RMS, well that 200RMS is heard at max volume, when its at minimum, its still getting this power from the amp but you won't hear it.

Underpowering don't matter, its not bad.

  3. they go to best buy and talk to each other about how much they know

  4. it's simple really, becasue people tend to educate, before being educated, therefor spreading misinformation..

underpowering causing damage, when does that ever make sense? so does not running my car at top speed hurt it? does not using 100% of my cpu power in my pc hurt it? does not running the shower at full blast hurt it.. where does the insanity stop?
