  1. Our body is called " elastic", meaning with high degree elastic quality. It means you can streatch your body in big way, provided you do it on a regualar basis. They say the human body specialy skin and muscles can be streached to 8 times of their original size, that too without tearing it. ( Is it not amazing, and there might be lying the secret of the baby taking birth, again the lady regaining the shape).

The opposite of it is plastic, means , which does not change the shape.

We can do the routine movements of our body, which we do everyday , like sitting on a chair, or writing, eating etc, but we find it difficult to bend to pick up something on the floor. This is because, for this particular type of the movement, the muscles are not trained,( are not streached in the past).

There fore those men who have a managed body weight, and put themselves on a regular basis, an appropriate amount of exertation, retain the required flexibility, others just can not. There is a body engineering involved, so we must take care of our body, do YOGA.

  2. Our lack of flexibility is not due to a lack of length or elasticity of the tendons

or muscles, but is the result of neural feedback between different muscles.

People that train themselves to stretch are in fact de-training their

automatic muscular reflexes. People that are naturally flexible have weaker

    reflexes of that sort.

  3. For the same reason that they are not all the same height and weight: genetic predisposition.

Some of it is also due to profession, disease, injuries, and motivation/desire.  If one is motivated to do what it takes to become more flexible, that person (barring any of the reasons mentioned before) would stand a better chance of attaining it.

  4. It's all in genetics, some have more flexible joints.  You can overcome this somewhat with a little practice.

  5. it depends if you're talking about double jointedness, which is really a weakness in joints, or muscular flexibility (ie doing splits) whch just comes from practice

  6. Because some people do yoga and some don't.  Women are naturally more flexible than men.  Some people may be pre-disposed genetically to be more flexible generally but it's mostly a matter of practice.

  7. They have the same body parts but not the same genes for flexibility.

  8. Some people have recessive genes which allow them to  perform actions from wriggling their ears to acts of contortionism. These were most probably actions that once enabled us to survive in our environment but now aren't neccessary - but they are still in the gene pool.
