Originally to protect kids sweatshops.  Now because the state pays the schools on a per head per day basis.  It's an outdated system at the very least....

Everyone is entitled to an education so much so that they'll force you to get one, albeit a basic one. After all, you need to be able to look after yourself and your family once you become an adult.

they lose about 20 dollars every time a student is absent.

if you are talking about the united states then it's because they lose about $40 each student, which comes out from our taxes. and that is what they use to pay the teachers.

it's $40, NOT $20.
