  1. because the majority were cut down to provide for the building of Henty Viii's fleet and has never recovered.


  2. The spruce and pines are there because the EU encourages Ireland to grow them because the land is perfect for it and they need it for trade within the union.  That's what I heard anyway.

    England cleared out most of the Oaks and Yews during their occupation.

  3. There are too many of those spruce and pine trees in Ireland.  They're not native and they ruin the landscape.

  4. the island was once covered with trees before humans arrived but over the centuries various clans and armies have cut down most of the trees for various reasons
