Ha, i was just talking about this the other night..

From the restaurants i've been to, honestly the majority of managers who i saw, where older males.  A lot of the servers (not all, probably 70%) were girls - everyone has their own reason, but i assume they do it for quick cash and good tips, and don't want to hassle with the added responsibilities of scheduling and dealing with added drama; when the money to be a manager isn't a whole heck of a lot better, plus they go to school or party or just do what they do.

You must dine in lower quality restaurants.

In most fine dining restaurants, a majority of servers are men. Especially 4 & 5 star restaurants.

At the Olive Garden there's a ton of waiters and waitresses. The rest of the guys are probably at the car shops fixing peoples' cars.

i own 3 restaurants and there are more servers then any other job there is often 20 servers on a saturday night and we run fine dining

Men make far less than women do waiting tables, but tend to make good tips as bartenders.  Women bartenders can make very good tips.

Sure boys need college money too. They just may not be interested in this type of job although my brother made good money doing this when he went to college.
