Why are there so few women in the IT field?

Is it because their brains r wired differently making it difficult for them to comprehend the concepts necessary to perform well in such a field?

I'm in IT and there are a lot of women in my department.  We understand everything a man understands.  It's just that in the past, women were geared toward other fields, not science and technology.  Thankfully, that is changing.
