Whenever I'm on the interstate or main highway I see these 18 wheeler trucks or other cargo trucks being pulled over by state police. Why are so many being pulled over? Is there some sort of regulation that they are not adhering to that the general public does not know about?

  1. Highway patrol does what ever they can to get them stopped to check for drugs, Have you seen one of the biggest bust in the US which came from Mexico. 2.5 Million dollars in cocaine. 2,000 pounds ! Look on www.blutube.com for the video.

  2. becuz they have restrictions on loads and time they drive. becuz if they drive non stop they could fall asleep at the wheel and get in a accident. so they must pull over sometimes and sleep if they dont they get fined, cops usally check a metter clock on the truck i belive.

  3. Commercial truck drivers have more responsibilities than normal traffic...such as keeping a driving log and checking their rigs daily, etc.  Many also believe that the police don't want to pull them over so they push the envelope a bit to far...

  4. weigh stations, truckers pay fees by how much they weigh, interstate trucking

  5. HJR's right, it's all about the money. You can bet the state wouldn't bother if it wasn't for all the cash they soak those drivers for. And it's you and me that really pay those fines via increased prices on our goods.

  6. There are too many accidents happening throughout the United States involving commercial truck drivers.  Some reasons are:  1)  they are not taking their mandatory breaks; 2)  driving too long (can only drive certain hours);  3)  driving without proper paperwork or logs; 4) driving without proper license (class a or b);  5)  they are illegal.  The authorities are enforcing the laws!

  7. There are tons of regulations that only apply to 18 wheelers due to their nature. They face inspection at any time (they can even be stopped for no other reason than the officer wants to inspect it) and an inspection can take awhile.

Also due to the nature of the trucks (80,000 pounds) officers tend to crack down hard on them for moving violations. For example, I may let a car go for changing lanes without signaling once, but I will stop an 18 wheeler for that in a heart beat, I stop them for 10 over the speed limit (everyone else is 13) ect

  8. They are pulled over for various reasons, including:

Speeding, Overweight, Logbook checks (number of hours driven in a 24 hour period), equipment violations, etc.

  9. Money. It's all about the greenbacks. The state wants as much money as they can get from the public as possible. They''ve so over regulated the trucking industry that it's become a jackpot for the state.

  10. Because they are more of a hazard, if they don't use a turn signal big accident...if a Honda Civic doesn't use a turn signal no big deal.
