  1. Why are there so many people with divorced parents in the olympics?

Why are there so many people who like chocolate ice cream in the olympics?

What the h**l does being adopted have to do with being an Olympian anyway?  Do you think that just because someone was adopted, they can't possibly be good at anything to enough of a degree to qualify for them?

This is a really weird question.

  2. I had read an article on this in an adoption facts pamphlet put out by the state of Arkansas.  In it, there were several interesting facts, including that adoptees are much less likey to commit felonies, that they are much more likely to get a college education, that overall, they make more money in life, that they have a better work ethic.

As far as the Olympics, perhaps it's the fact that many adoptees have more financial resources to train.  Many things like ice skating, swimming, gymnastics, and more take lots of money to learn, do, and have the areas to do them in.  Although there are some, especially in running, and other sports that don't require a lot of expenses to train, there are some very gifted athletics in other areas of the olympics who weren't raised as adoptees, or as rich kids.  It sounds like we need more sports programs for our average and less fortunate kids nationwide, if these are true facts.

  3. Surfnerd,

If it is a 'fact' that there are "so many adoptees in the Olympics" then please cite (give a reference for) your source.  I'm not saying it's not true, it may be, but I've never heard it.  I'd be interested in it, if you can tell us where you learned it.

Your statement of "it is a fact" is not enough to go on.

Edit: [i will get you just the facts maam.]  I look forward to it!

  4. I thought you were just a COWBOY FAN.

    Where are your stats, hon?

Well we're tops in the serial killer rankings, too.

  5. Maybe because we run faster.  Didn't you know?  It is a fact.

EDIT.  Actually, I don't run very fast at all but I'm sure other adoptees do.  ;-).

  6. It's certainly true for a winter olympics sport: figure skating. The lists of adopted persons on wikipedia feature these figure skating champions:

    Aaron Parchem

    Scott Hamilton

    Surya Bonaly

    Peter Carruthers

    Kitty Carruthers

    Eliot Halverson

    Timothy Goebel

    Ann Patrice McDonough

BTW there is only one adopted US athlete competing in the 2008 Olympics, shot putter Reese Hoffa, I don't know if that counts as "so many".
