  1. I am not sure that that there are as many here as there are on Religion and Spirituality.  Until YA, I was not aware that trolls had religious beliefs (or atheism for that matter).

In any case, my answer is two-part:

    (1) There are a lot of people who participate in this forum who desparately need attention (whether positive or negative) from people who would otherwise ignore them and

    (2) There are a lot of people here whose faith in their own perspective requires constant reinforcement (again, whether negative or positive) -a and again - for mainly psychological reasons.

  2. There aren't.

One person here will call five other people trolls because they disagree with her and then in turn she will behave just exactly like a textbook troll so it's all very trollish.

    Yay! Equality!

  3. I think any ideology attracts to trolls. Some of them are good, and came with interesting questions, but the most part of them came out with silly questions about stereotypes over feminism...

  4. i think the trolls must be yung frustrated guys that arnt geting any...  they hate women cuz they no how much they need us... an we dont need them...  lol...  they come here to rant an blame women for all the problems in there crummy lifes...

  5. One of the other forums I frequent is NASCAR.  And believe it or not, trolls are at least as big a problem over there as they are here, if not worse in a way (there seems to be less overall frequent users of NASCAR than GWS, so they might just stand out a lot more than they do here).  I hardly ever go there anymore, but the Religion forum also has plenty of trolls.  But this section is among the worst ones.

Every section has trolls (except maybe Polls and Surveys, since I'm not sure exactly what you'd classify as trolling in something that random).  But the vague topics like this one and topics that cover a wide variety of subjects allow for a lot of things trolls can attack.  When you think about it, Gender and Women's Studies can include politics, housework, sports, the workforce, and just about anything.

Also, I think that people here like to label anyone who doesn't agree with them trolls.

  6. Because, the topics their simply ask for trolls. Trolls like the section, and it is quiet easy to troll there.

    Easy+People devoted to topic=troll's paradise

  7. I'm not sure that's quantitatively correct, though there are certainly a lot.  There's no shortage of misogynists, and this is the obvious place for them to bait women or feminists in general.  I noticed you giving a particularly wise answer in the marriage/divorce section, where there are indeed fewer trolls.

But I'm not sure there aren't as many in religion/spirituality or in politics.  And anti-Semitic trolls write the vast majority of posts in the Israel section - there's no shortage of anti-Semites, either, and it's the obvious place for Jew-baiting.

It's a shame, because I use this site mostly for fun and wind up avoiding posting in these sections.  I don't want to argue, even if it's fun to debate sometimes.  But the system for moderating the forums just isn't up to the task of weeding out the posts in question.

  8. Don't be so hard on yourself ,not everyone considers you a troll.

  9. Because people here buy into it...

Besides, it seems one person's troll is another person's legitimate question.

  10. Pretty much because it's one of the easiest subjects to get on someones bad side. Just like with R&S, it's easy for anyone to annoy other users by bashing a religion, just as it's easy to bash another user based on difference in beliefs and gender stereotypes.

Rebel, I have to disagree with you about P&S, apparently you never heard of Fizzdude and Balzsweat..................

  11. People on both sides are frustrated.  Just my guess.

  12. The GWS section is the busiest section in Social Science and, as of the other day, social science is the 2nd busiest section on yahoo.  So, I guess we get a lot of trolls cause we're so popular dahling!

Oh, we're 3rd now apparently.  You people have been slacking, mush mush!

  13. Well I assume because there are always so many man-hating rants that happen in here... so usually young men (teens), full of emotion, come in here and make asses of themselves because they haven't taken the class on how to debate yet.

  14. Multiple targets, plentiful bait.

  15. It depends on what you mean by troll. There is the traditional meaning of troll. There are a few in here. Then there is the feminist idea of a troll, which is anybody that doesn't agree with them. This must be were you get the idea that there are more trolls in here than any other section.

  16. Whatever the reason, people need to learn how to get rid of them. The best way to do that is to NEVER answer any question that you deem to be sexist or offensive in any way, and also to report all sexist questions and answers. If you do not respond to them in ANY way except to report them, they will get much less satisfaction from their actions, and tend not to continue with it.

If you are in doubt as to whether a question or answer is sexist, try putting in a racial word instead. Everyone is quick to jump on any racist comment, but a lot of sexist comments are let go. If someone asks a question like, "Why are women so stupid?", for example, try putting in these words, "Why are black people so stupid?". Oh my goodness!! All of a sudden it's offensive because it's racist, but no-one took much notice when it was "just" sexist. NB: Sexism is just as illegal as racism.

Time to start reporting the trolls and ignoring them in every other way. That way, there will be fewer of them over time.
