Why are there so many pubs in Ireland and why are they famous for beer?

Because the public house was like a comunity centre for people many years ago, Public houses sold more than just beer, you could think of them as general merchants, undertakers,ect. Many people would have community meetings in the pubs as it was large enough to hold that many people.

Irelands war of independance was fought from meetings in or above pubs in dublin.

Monastaries  are the answer to the beer, As ireland was known as the island of saints and scolars due to the large monastic presance in the period 500Ad - 1500, the monks developed their brewing techniques, as irish monks re enlightened continental europe during and after the dark ages, they set up monastries in europe, these brewing techniques were passed on to the general population as in ireland, this is why europe has some of the best beers as they have well over a thousand years of research and development.

Stereotypes of ireland and its drinking habbits are an insult, cities accross the uk and europe have bigger problems with drink. The irish like to converse and socialise using alcohol, granted some to extreme but  generally we know how to use it to have a good time.

If the stereotypes about the irish were true then how come when we go to the world cup abroad that the irish can drink and not get in trouble , its our neighbours in the uk  who have the problem, in fact at the world cup in japan 2002 the irish supporters were voted the fans of the tournament by FiFA, meening they were an example to other countries on how to behave and treat the local people, and this is a collective group of people so its a godd sample of the population.

They are social centres, in a country that for a long time didn't have the resources to build big concert halls, arenas, and the like. Pubs developed naturally because Ireland is mainly a rural nation, and made up of small, localised communities. People liked having somewhere to gather outside of the home in the evening, and pubs addressed this.

Not every Irish person likes to drink merely for the drink, by the way. Most people do go through a phase where they overindulge, usually when in their early twenties, but then they grow out of that. To assume that most Irish like drinking for its own sake is similar to assuming that all Black people dance - it's racial stereotyping and more than a little insulting.

Most Irish people are sociable and have a couple of drinks when they go out locally in pubs to meet their friends.

The beer in Ireland is good because we have the natural resources to make good beer. The pubs are dwindling fast - Belfast has half the pubs it had 50 years ago.

Ireland makes excellent beer and they have wonderful pubs that have live music and a homey atmosphere.  The Irish are friendly and you feel like part of their family within 10 minutes.  Plus the Irish like to drink!
