Why are there so many siblings available for adoption?

Question

I browsed the adoption site and noticed many groups of 5-6 siblings waiting to be adopted. Do the parents die or suddenly decide they don't like their 6 kids, or does the state take them away? I'm just interested.

there is child abuse and there is dying when the parents are in accident and leave this world. there are some that aren't fit to raise kids and some just throw them away. there are so many types out there and no one seems to care. its very sad and when even one kid is adopted that is life saved. take care

death of a single parent, loss of parental rights due to neglect or abuse, or a tragedy where both parents die at the same time. Sibling groups are hard to place, God bless them.

all of the above. But usually the state takes them away for neglect/ the kids are not properly taken care of people have all these kids then can't afford to feed them or dress them properly even with assistance because assistance is not forever like it used to be

Also those groups are hard to place because people don't want 4 5 or 6 kids. My wife and i are trying to adopt but we only want one because we have one. There are lots of sibling groups out their. We can't afford three kids. Sadly they end up aging out of the system never being adopted or being split up

just to piggyback off others comments yes often times something happens to both or the custodial parent and the entire group of kids are put up for adoption. Many people only want one and the entire group of kids remain in the system, but what people fail to realize some state(OH I know for a fact) encourages adopters to adopt the group of siblings and the state will provide medical and dental insurance and give the parents a  monthly check.

I think it is usually because they are taken away by the state.  Of course, parents can die or people can decide that they no longer want to be parents, but I don't think that is as common.  I find it sad when I see large sibling groups like that because I know how hard it will be to place them together.  Sometimes a large sibling group will be split up a placed with different families, which is heartbreaking.  It takes a special family to adopt all of them and keep them together.  (Although I know of at least on mom on YA that has adopted 4 siblings, God bless her!)

Its both.  I am looking into adopting a sibling group and found a group of 7 kids.  The youngest was a month old and the oldest was 9.  The info on the kids said the mom just gave up rights before the youngest was born.  I dont see how you can give birth to that many kids and raise them that long, then all of a sudden decide you dont want them.
