Why are there so many songs about rainbows and what's on the other side?

Its also about dreams. Rainbows are mystical things, and people like to hope dreams come true on the other side of a rainbow.

Rainbows are a symbol of renewed hope because they are something beautiful coming after something dark. Because they appear to touch the earth, it is natural to wonder where that is.

To give hope. After the storm comes sunshine. It's a bit like every cloud having a silver lining. It shows the promise that there is always something better to look forward to. Mankind needs that. What better symbol to use than a rainbow.
