All sizes, and colors, there always seems to be several spiders roaming about in my home... especially the bedroom and it really freaks me out... how do I get rid of them? is there a spray or something that keeps them away for good?

  1. spiders are harmless and don't bite unless you live in south america. I noticed the same problem in my house too but the best way to get rid of them is to dust often

  2. there must be a food supply that keeps them around. if there was no food supply they wouldn't stay. they won't hurt you leave them alone. if i see too many i scoop em up and put them outside, then clean away the web. also look for an eggsack and remove that as well.

  3. Some spiders do bite, and if you have a child, you'll want to rid your home of them.  First, it's important to realize that spiders only want to be where there is food, so make sure your basic housekeeping is taken care of.  Pick up so there are fewer hiding spots; dust down the walls to knock down any spiderwebs, etc.

Then, I use two products on the outside of my home.  One is a liquid (either Home Defense by Ortho, or Bug Stop, sold at Walmart--frankly I think Bug Stop is better).  I spray the entire perimeter of my foundation, plus the threshhold of every door 2 to 3 times per year (spring, summer, fall).

I also use a granular bug killer (Bayer makes a good one, so does Ortho).  I spread this into my landscaping with a lawn spreader.  You might only need this once a year.

I try to stay on top of this task (I have a real fear of spiders)--I do it before I see the first sign of one, and I have very good luck keeping them out of my home.

  4. Is your bedroom messy? Spiders like messy rooms - it makes it easier for them to hide and move around without being seen. They're also attracted to food that's been left out - so if you sometimes forget to put stuff away, that can make them want to stick around.
