  1. Hello,

I live in New York City myself ( In Brooklyn) and I know what you mean about the weather. Since we have had a hot and humid summer, plus the track of the jet stream, this is why we have had a large amount of stormy weather this summer. Anytime its hot and humid for a while, all you need is a little bit of instability in the atmosphere for thunderstorms to pop up. Also, the track of the jet stream has been pushing low pressure systems and fronts in the area of New York City. Any front that will cross through here when its warm enough will definately produce severe thunderstorms, and the warmer it is (or the larger the difference between air masses), the more severe the thunderstorms will be.

Don't worry about this though. I remember past summers here in New York City where we have had a large amount of severe thunderstorms. But every summer, there is always one part or a few parts of the U.S that get hit with severe weather, and this year, New York City happens to be one of those places.

  2. There has been an somewhat unusual amount of low pressure systems that have been tracking across southern Canada and the northern U.S. one after another which in turn have brought cold fronts.  These fronts have acted as focusing mechanisms for an increased amount of showers and thunderstorms in your area.
