Why are there so many versions of the bible in english? and Why is the name Jehova used in 3englishversions? ?

(2 Questions) I'm fluent in spanish and english like to study other languanges, and notice on this website http://www.biblegateway.com/ 19with old testment incuded in Eng, 5 in spanish other languages 1 or 2, 3 at most versions. Is there more doubt or confusion among the english language? The name jehova is used 3 out 19 bibles in english, 3 out 5 in spanish what is the reason for this? (Ezekiel 28:25)

Because they were translated from the original Greek, Latin and Hebrew at different times and with different aims, both political, social and religious.

Therefore with translation sometimes subjective and the differing and completing ideologies they were servcing you end up with slightly diffeerent versions.

I'll answer one question at a time the best I can.

1) Why so many versions: Well, the first English Bibles were written in Shakespearean English... not too many people like to read those now a days. So others have come out with different versions to cater to different tastes: Bibles like the New King James version cater to those who liked the original King James version, New International Version to those who like a more basic English with it remaining a translation, then there are Bibles like the Amplified and the New Living "Translation" that paraphrase in translation to keep it simple.

2) Jehovah actually never appears in the original text. The actual word is "YHWH," to which we no longer have the pronunciation of. It could be "Jehovah" but could be "Yahweh" or it could be "bob" for all we know. The word choice would then be the preference of the translator, which would probably generally default to whatever they were taught first.

translations  can never be perfect  and language  changes  that is why  there are a number of translations  the name  of God  in hebrew  was YHWH  meaning  ' I am''  that  was at first translated as Jhvh  and later and yhwh  so they added the voels  as they thought best  but the name  is not spoken in hebrew  so its  not easy to know  how  it should be said.

There is a very simple reason there are different translations and different translations do not negate the bible in any way.

"Dr. Lewis Foster, one of those who helped translate the NIV and the NKJV says, “It is necessary to continue making new translations and revising old ones if people are to read the Word of God in their contemporary languages. With the passage of time, words change in meanings. For instance, in King James’ day the word ‘prevent’ could mean ‘come before’ but not necessarily in a hindering way. So the translators in that day rendered 1 Thes. 4:15, ‘For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.’ But today the word ‘prevent’ has lost that earlier meaning (come before), so it must be translated differently to convey the proper meaning: ‘According to the Lord’s own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not ‘precede’ those who have fallen asleep’ (NIV). ...To keep the translation of God’s Word living it must be kept in the living language the people are using.”¹"

Hebrew and Greek, the two languages the source documents from which the bible are translated are rather imprecise languages in that one word can have a number of meanings. This makes a word for word translation virtually impossible. The words must be taken in context and then there are some differences of opinion on meaning.

Because it's big business.

The Bible is the world's bestselling book. Therefore, if you bring out a new translation, it stands to reason that a lot of people are going to buy that translation, and you are going to make a lot of money.

They used Jehovah because it is a mistranslation of YHWH in Hebrew.  The reason for several different translations come from different translation methodologies.

There are two major types of translations:

1. Word for Word: That is the best equivalent ENGLISH WORD for the Original GREEK or HEBREW Word.

2. Dynamic Equivalent: That is the best equivalent ENGLISH PHRASE for the Original GREEK or HEBREW phrase.

Both methodologies of translation are very good and can be very accurate. The reality is most translations will involve a litte bit of both of these methods.

Also its important to have a modern committee translation. That is a translation that has been published in the last 50 years and was created by a committee of various scholars from different religious backgrounds.

The importance of a recent translation is because in the past recent years we have found some more reliable greek and hebrew manuscripts that modern translations reflect in their works. The most famous example is the Dead Sea Scrolls. I believe they are the oldest collection of Old Testament Manuscripts to date. Not sure about that last statement though.

So the BEST translation for a WORD for WORD methodology is

NASB: The New American Standard Bible (1995 update) (really no debate about that)

The BEST translation that uses a DYNAMIC EQUIVALENT is

NIV: The New International Version

There is probably a little bit of debate about the NIV being the best of dynamic equivalents, but manys scholars will use the NIV for their study. The New Living Translation is also a very good translation, but I personally think it takes a few too many liberties with the text.

Here is an explanation why there are so many different belief systems today.

Suppose you have one bible, such as the King James. With that one book, you could have possibly five different interpretations, thus creating five different religions.

Today, I believe there is roughly about 26 different translations of the bible. Now, if each of these have five different translations, it could possibly create 130 different belief systems or churches, each boasting theirs is the right way. They cannot all be right and they are not.

Over time, the enemy snuck in when the good man of the house had let his guard down and added a small drop of poison. He only added a few drops of poison so as to not change the taste dramatically, least his plan be discovered. For his intention is not to kill a few, but all mankind. And if he would have added enough poison, a few would have died, and his plan would have been revealed, thus saving the multitude.

So the enemy continued to add poison to the water and to this day continues, causing those who drink from the well to get sicker and sicker, even unto death.

So basically, the further men move from the truth of God's Word, the sicker he becomes.

So what is the true Word, the uncorrupted Word?

The bible teaches us the Jesus is the Word of God. Jesus told the apostles that his followers will recognize his voice, would know and understand his Word.

Today, most of modern christianity has compromised the bible in one way, shape or form. We are not to compromise the Word of God. We are not to add or take away from the Word of God. We are to led of the Holy Spirit and we are to remember that greater is he who is in me, then he who is in the world.

I believe that if a man seeks God with all of his heart, mind and soul, loves God with all of his heart, mind and soul, he will know the truth and that truth will set you free from the ways of the world.

Regardless of all the many different and diverse translations in the world today, there is one that has and will always stand above the rest. It is the Authorized King James Bible. I believe it is the infallible Word of God. I believe if a man is true to himself and submits to God's will, he will come to know which is the Word of God.

ONE of the most damaging lies of the devil and most successful is the belief that it is impossible for the God of all creation to get his Word into print and have it done perfectly. It is said that because of the imperfection of man, it is impossible to get a perfect translation. Yet, the bible tells us nothing is impossible for God.

Believe the Word of God. Seek God with the heart and not the mind. Seek him though his Son by way of faith.
