What is the point of a trade deadline when teams continue to deal afterwards?????

  2. The "Trade Deadline" is a very loose term. It is better called the Nonwaiver Trade Deadline.

    Very rarely are good players traded after the Nonwaiver Trade Deadline, because all the traded players have to pass through waivers in order to be traded.

    Even calling it a trade is debatable. It's moreso two teams about to send down players with no options left, and agreeing to acquire the players off waivers before anyone else.
