Why are there stones in mud?

Ok so i've just started sorting out my garden but while digging i keep hitting my spade on stones this made me wonder why there are stones in mud if you know please help.

  1. Yes, there are stones everywhere, but I think it is a question every gardener asks themselves. I often contemplate, "how did I get this boulder in my flower garden", you're not alone.

    I would ask a professional, or if there is a professional gardener reading now, please stand up.


  2. Well, a long time ago those stones were ion the top of the ground, but thanks to the the weather and wind, dirt and plant seeds were blown over them and that just keeps happening.

  5. It's called earth sweetheart. Rocks are everywhere in the dirt. When the dirt gets wet it becomes mud, but the stones don't. I don't know what else to tell you.

  6. I'm not sure why Chris G got the thumbs down and he may or may not be a "professional gardener" but he is certainly the only one so far who has given a straightforward and correct answer.
