Why is it that in certain relationships where the parents of the person you are dating is having a hard time letting go to the point the interfere with your relationship and manipulate to try to keep their child from moving away. I am currently in that situation. I would never try to alter my child's decision from moving just because I know that once my child becomes an adult, my child is going to do what he or she feels and I would want them to be the happiest person in the world. My fiance wants to move to be with me, and I am not comfortable living in the same town with his family because they try to control everything. My fiance is a very soft spoken person without a backbone.

  1. I think it all depends upon your age and how responsible you are. Our daughter moved out when she was 17 (due to Texas law she can). She was a senior in high school. We wanted her to stay at home until she graduated, but she didn't want too. She she moved out with 2 months of school left with her boyfriend. She dropped out of school, lost the boyfriend and is now ona  downward spiral while telling us the wholetime that she is ok. As a parent you try to do whatever you can to protect your child no matter how old they are. I do think you need to let kids make their own mistakes as well, but not ones that they will regret for the rest of their lives.

We all say when we are younger, "I won't do my kids that way". It's totally different when you have your own.

  2. The trouble is that the parents don't think they are being hurtful.  They think they are being "helpful" by not wanting their child make any of their own decisions or mistakes.  The child feels that this means the parents love them sooo much and that they would hurt the parents if they didn't do what the parents said, so they do it.  Good luck on this on sister, cause a mama's boy is a losing battle....
