Why are there two Gods in the bible?

If you read the New Testament and you'll find a nice, loving God. If you read the Old Testament, God's a prick. Why is there such a disparity? Was it the birth of his son that calmed him down?

Sorry, there is only one God in the Bible, they are both the same.  The Old Testament gives God's perspective on sin and man's rebellious nature - in EVERY case before God made judgment, He ALWAYS gave an opportunity to repent.

The New testament is about the hope of Jesus Christ, offering redemption from sins so God's judgment does not come upon us.  The love of God is easily seen in both Old and New Testaments, as is God's wrath.  Remember Ananias and Sophira in the book of Acts?  They were struck dead on the spot for lying to God.  What about Herod?  He was eaten by worms.  God is still God, in both testaments.

God loves His children, but in order for His kids in the old testament to have a chance of joining Him in eternal paradise, the rules were alot stricter and the punishments alot fiercer because if they didn't walk the narrow road, they would suffer to no end.

Easy one - God reveals HImself in phases/stages.

The OT God showed God's righteous and holy side. Adam had just disobeyed Him cursing the entire human race.

The NT God is a God of peace, mercy and reconciliation. God mellowed out after He sacrificed Himself (God the Son) TO Himself (God the Father)!

tedi lee-- God is not Jesus. Jesus is Gods son who he sent to earth to save mankind. They are not the same, just as neither of them are the Holy Spirit.

In the Old Testament, God showed how powerful He was because Adam and Eve disobeyed. He told them not to do something and they did it anyways. God kept His word and destroyed the Garden of Eden.

In the New Testament, God is showing how He will always be there for His children if they would follow Him and let Him Be their Lord. If you are a Christian and you believe then God will do amazing things in your life. If your not, then you will always feel there is something missing and you will be miserable and end up not having eternal life.

Why take the chance in going to h**l, when there is a God who will love you unconditionally and give you eternal life?

God did what He did to protect the Jews.

Jesus is the Lord, read the book of Acts.

God has two sides the loving side of His nature and the justice side of anyone who opposes His Word.

Think of God as a ruler who wants nothing more than to be obeyed by His own people and those who question His Word He gives them that choice, those who denounces His Word His wrath of judgement comes forth. Those who accepts His Word and abides by it will be full of riches in this life and the next...

I believe that people interpret the Bible differently. I believe that God is actually an all loving God and shouldnt be feared. What kind of God would that be?

Because the leaders realized they weren't able to keep a strong following with such a horrid God, so they recreated God, threw in Jesus, "bim bam", its all new, God is great and no longer scary.
