Why are there two timings for Isha prayer on my Salat chart?

I have a prayer chart that tells me what time all 5 prayers start. From the months May, June, July and August, it is two Isha prayers, one of them says '12 Isha and the other one says 15' Isha. What is the difference, and how do I know which Isha I should pray? Does anyone else have this on their Salat chart?

  1. well , i don't know what that means .. but the basis is that isha prayer is prayed when the sun totally go down and the sky is all black , at a certain time that's the time of isha prayer , so if your not sure what that means , just pray isha at anytime at night after 10 everyday for example , and you have till dawn , and isha is prayed only once a day

  2. Salam for you my dear friend. I do not know what it means with 12 isha and 15 isha in your Salat chart. Please ask it to your muslim friend in your  muslim neighbours or to the imam at the nearest mosque.

Yes we muslims have a mandatory salat  5 times a day including isha.Isha salat is started at night  at least 1 hour after maghrib salat when the sun set.If you have any doubt please make isha salat just one hour before midnight although it is better to make salat right on time.

  3. I don't know what u mean by '12 and 15' but right now, 'Isha prayer is due at 10:00.

    Peace for all!

  4. after Maghreb prayer, at any time till pajar you can pray isha.

  5. Well, usually when two prayer times are given for one Salat, the first is the time of the Athan, and the second is the Iqamah.

After the Athan (call to prayer), you are allowed to pray. However, in mosques, they usually start the Iqama (getting up to pray) about 10-30 minutes after the Athan. This way, when people are heading to prayer and are a little late, everyone can pray at the same time. It is also for the reason that they want to delay it for a few minutes just to be safe and not pray it ahead of time.

Can you perhaps scan the prayer chart on here so we can have a look?

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have other questions =]

    @ The answeres above:

How do you even know where she lives to be telling her what time Isha enters? It's 10pm where you guys are, but it's different everywhere else!

    @ Asker:

What "baybars" said is correct, it does depend on how many degrees (12 or 15) the sun is below the horizon. But, according to the link of the prayer schedule you sent me, there are two times provided for Isha. Now, the first column is the time that Isha enters according to Fiq (meaning when the sun has completely disappeared and it's really dark outside, 12 degrees below horizon), while the second column gives you the lunar calculations of the expected time of Isha prayer (15 degrees below horizon). They will usually follow the second one since it's a little bit later, but you can pray as soon as it enters on the first column =]

Thanks for sending the schedule! Read the footnotes below on the schedule, you'll understand what I mean =]

  6. The Isha time is determined when the sun is fully gone. In some countries they consider the sun is totally gone when it is 12 degrees below the horizon while in others they consider 15 degrees and in other countries they consider it 17 or 18 degrees. In few Muslim countries they consider sun is totally gone after 1.5 hours from magrib. It differs because of the angle of the sun depending on the geographical location on earth. I think if you follow your local mosque you don't go wrong. I personally think that 17 degrees is the closest to the right time for the middle east or any country around latitude of 30 -36 degrees.
