Why are there warning signs for speed cameras?

Whats the point, because if a driver sees that sign, they slow down while they pass the camera and then speed up again. If they didn't know it was there they would get caught more often.

  1. maybe that's a characteristic tied into their function. to tell you a command tied into what they are for.

  2. It makes a lot of us more scared, making it more easier to drive unsafe.

  3. lol hey you have a point!!!!!!! I like the way you think! Unfortunately I'm only 13 and I don't drive so I cant really tell you why they do that. :D

  4. ur clearly not a driver :P

  5. just a notification !!!

  6. To slow down cars!

  7. The idea is to slow cars in certain areas, your own theory says it works!

  8. It's a legal requirement. Dozy drivers still get caught.

  9. its a deterrent

like if you see one your remember you are supposed to slow down

    they can save lives

  10. because we want to keep roads safe, not catch criminals.

  11. They have to warn you,it is the law,or you could get them for entrapment.

  12. No, but you can get a GPS that shows them.

  13. Its the law.

  14. because prevention is cheaper than the cure.

    and safer.

  15. You are completely correct and they do not make any since, they should not put them up at all.

  16. Yeah, I know, that makes no sense! I have no idea what they were thinking when they put up those signs. No one actually obeys the speed laws anyway...

  17. The object is to get people to drive more slowly, not to fill up prisons.

If drivers slow down, the system works.

  18. To try to get people to slow down and think a minute. One second of slowing down could really help.

  19. It's so true.  I hate it. Also they are painted bright yellow.!!!

It's like the more observant people get off without being caught.

I make it a point never to speed because speeding makes the difference between someone living or dying if you hit them .

If people werent given any warnings then there would be a lot less speeding in the world.

  20. Probably some kind of legal obligation. Speaking as a non motorist it would appear that most drivers are unable to read and are colour blind anyway, since they cannot see double yellow lines or 20mph signs they are also profoundly stupid as they appear to think speeding over a short distance and braking quickly enables them to get to their destination quicker. We need a rethink for drivers in the same way we have changed smokers habits. Over 3,000 dead on the UK roads each year is a scandal and costs the NHS a small fortune in caring for the remaining surviving thousands of injured .

  21. Well, if they know there is a camera to catch them speeding or going through a red light, they will be more likely to stop so that they don't get a ticket. And if the person that was speeding was a good driver, they would know not to use tricks and cause people danger just to get out of a speeding ticket. And if they even were a good driver, they wouldn't be speeding anyways...

  22. They want to get people to slow down.  the cameras can catch a lot of people, but it can't catch all of them. The sign makes people aware, and gives them the chance to check how fast they are going. Just because someone is speeding doesn't mean they are doing it on purpose.

  23. Contrary to popular opinion, the purpose of speed limits and speed cameras is to prevent accidents, not to bring in revenue.

They should put speed camera warning signs where they want everyone to slow down, such as right before a dangerous intersection.  Even without the actual cameras, a well-placed sign that slows everyone until they are on a safer section of road could do more good than an unsigned camera, which issues tickets only after the car is already gone, when it is too late to prevent it from crashing.

  24. The enforcement officials don't necessarily want to fine the drivers.  They just want them to slow down.  At the point you are warned about one camera, you will start to wonder if there are other cameras that have no warning sign.  You might also start to wonder if there is a warning sign but no camera.

The cameras get a picture of the driver and the license plate, so a ticket can be mailed to you.  This allows more tickets to be issued without involving the labor of an officer nor the danger of pulling cars over to the side of the road.

By the time you have seen the warning sign, the camera probably has already caught you, so when you see the sign, just smile

  25. I don't slow down when I see those signs.  The point is usually they don't exist and what you just said about them explains why they exist.  They're dummy signs for dummies.  They also give the law more reason to use in court when they can't enforce a ticket by picture because the last time I checked,  the only way to identify the licensed driver of any vehicle is by their driver's license and not a picture of someone's car/ license plate sent to the owner.  The "owner" did not break the law and the law can't prove who the driver by taking a picture.

  26. They are required to post those signs to let the public know where the locations of traffic camera's are. Most people running red lights are not paying attention in the first place, so if your not paying enough attention to stop, your probably not going to pay much attention to the sign either.

  27. I do agree that there is no point. But the government are legally obligated to tell you that you are being watched and that if you are caught it is your own fault bla bla blaaa - it's stupid, no one takes it seriously. But you've gotta give it to them...they're trying
