This is a legitimate question. I think it's because the earth is now cooling. What do you think?

  1. This is where I probably stand alone. It's an environmental issue, slapping a nomenclature on it, only enforces the pronouncement of abnormal events. At least it wasn't named Terra Thermal.

  2. The earth isn't cooling right now.

    AGW=specifically man made global warming

CC=man made global warming, as well as climatic shifts brought about by it

  3. It's more accurate and descriptive, and it is less likely to mislead people into the mistaken assumption that a warming climate trend should make winter disappear or make every year warmer than the last in their local area.

For example, in the past people had trouble understanding how they could get more snow while it's also warmer.  They assumesd that snow meant that the climate was not warming, when in fact all it means is that more precipitation is falling (accelerated water cycle)  while the out door temps are anywhere below 32 degrees.

  4. Dear JrF,

One of the problems with the theory of man made global warming was that the human race as a whole did not contribute nearly as much greenhouse gas as did nature.

Scientists discovered that many of their measurements were strictly local phenomena.  And taken as a whole, the surface temperature of the earth was actually decreasing very slightly.

Then someone reminded the group that was pushing the theory that we humans caused global warming that our earth has run temperature cycles for millions of years.  Long before man came into the picture, the world would warm and cool, sometimes dramatically.

Since so much of the recorded data seem to be local, climate change is a more accurate description of what is happening.

However, none of that eliminates the problems noted in the Arctic.  These problems, like loss of habitat for animals and birds remain with us and if we do not want to witness the extinction of species like the polar bear, we are going to have to do something to save them in large numbers.  The same goes for the piniped mammals like seals and walruses who depend on the ice.

Remember that the same people who were warning of global warming also warned that if the Arctic polar cap melted, coastal cities would be flooded.  These folk just didn't think the problem through.  If you fill a glass with water and ice, then leave it at room temperature, the ice will melt but the water will not overflow the glass.  The same is true for the Arctic ice, which is floating on the sea.

It is quite the opposite in Antarctica where much of the ice sits on land.

BTW, I am not saying that we should not do what is in our power to reduce carbon emissions and other greenhouse gases.  Most of this results from unwise use of petroleum and coal.  Petroleum has too many good things that can be made from it to burn.  Coal is a good, but limited energy source.  But it is absolutely necessary for the users to scrub their exhaust gases to reclaim the other materials in coal besides carbon.  Studies in the 1980s showed that doing this could make more money from the waste products than the equipment to reclaim them cost.  Less pure coal can be "coked" that is heated to drive off the non-carbon parts which can then be used in chemical manufacture while the coal, now coke can be used in industries like steel that require higher temperatures than can be obtained from burning coal.

  5. Because they started out claiming that as Carl Sagan mentioned on his program "Cosmos" that the earth would become like Venus, with a run away green house effect with the temperatures getting hotter and hotter the earths climate became like venus.  Never mind that we don't share an orbit with Venus and don't recieve the same amount of solar radiation.

They soon realized that was a ridiculous notion and that what would really happen is that as the earth warmed the ice caps would melt and this would shut off the ocean circulation that moves heat from the equator to the artic regions.  Which cause the ice caps to reform and expand beyond their current limits (Ice Age).  Water, the most important greenhouse gas would become trapped in the polar regions allowing the temperature to fall even farther.  The solar energy would be reflected by the ice sheets causing the temperature to drop further.

There is a reason that Ice Ages typically last 100,000 years and global warming episodes typically last only 10,000 years.  The thermal equilibrium of the planet is muct more stable at a mean global temperature more than 10 degrees cooler than it is now.  That means that as the earth's temperature rises it is more likely to fall, and that as it falls it is more likely to continue falling.

The bottom line is we really need to be worrying about how we are going to provide food and shelter for people in an ice age, not about a run away global warming event that isn't going to happen.

  6. Many scientists that believe in Global Warming are finding out that the Global Warming isn't true because this is something that is supposed to happen. They even got prooved that Global Warming isn't true because some people told them that 150,000 years ago people went through climate changes.

When you said that the Earth is cooling that is that the climate in some places is changing from its original to its new climate.

Hope I answered your question good.

  7. This must be a rhetorical question, but, OK, I'll bite.

Rhetorical because you must already have noticed there no evidence of a world wide rise in temperature over the last 10 years.  In fact, quite the opposite.

So, the global warming people in order to continue their cash flow have changed to climate change.  In order to exploit what ever happens to the weather.

  8. Weather is the interaction of 3 things, water vapor, air pressure and temperature. If you change any of the 3, weather changes and it will cause climate change.

We are generating extreme heat on the surface of the planet with the interaction of solar radiation and absorbent building exteriors. Buildings are designed and insulated for regional temperatures except academia designs temperature in a calculator.

Thermografix Consulting Corporation in Canada completed several years of seasonal studies to qualify solar impact on buildings. Go to the following link and see the most advanced temperature imaging applications in the world. The information isn't controversial, it is simply the evolution of temperature measurement. Professionals need to see temperatures before they qualify their global warming comments. http://www.thermoguy.com/globalwarming-h...

  9. To keep the hope of carbon taxes alive.  But they're never consistent, global warming, global cooling, climate change and it's a handy explanation of why for a few days a certain weather pattern takes place and they blame it all on man being alive.  And the absurdities abound:  Rain in January is global warming, a cold day in the summer is climate change but a blizzard in December is still global warming.

Unexpected weather has been going on as long as the Earth has been around and will continue to do what it does long after man has gone and moved to Mars.

  10. The thing is the global climate is constently changing and they are starting to realize that. It's sad that people somehow people had the mistaken notion that we live on a planet with a static climate. In away it's kinda funny if they really believed that. (I know some knew the planets climate changed, but those that did have the mistaken notion that it takes along time to change, and don't think that there's any major variations the global average temperature except when major climatic events occur such as Glaciation periods, but than explain how we go from one to another?)

  11. Because teh scientific evidence does not support the global warming theory, so they changed the name to keep the lie going.

  12. its because...theman made thing is causing climate to change

  13. I have also heard it called "climate crisis"

  14. GLOBAL WARMING ISNT TRUE

    ITS NOT BECAUSE OF HUMANS

if the earth is going to heat up, its because its in a cycle

    EVERYTHING is in a cycle

    EVERYTHING

that includes the earth, in a few hundred years or so, the entire earth will be come a mass of water, then itll slowly reform as ice and escape to the north and south poles and thus create an entire new world

then new creatures will form, just like how the earth is now, humans WILL die of and so will all animals alive today

    like i said

    everything is a cycle

    even though every1 is like

"o we have to save the animals that are dieing and the endangered animals" well although they dont know it, there are so many new species of plants and animals that are spawned each and every day

so i dont think the earth is cooling, not yet, and i dont know why they changed the name to climate change sorry :(

  15. To make it sound more friendly for people who don't want to change their thoughtless and wasteful ways of life.

  16. They haven't changed anything.

It always was "climate change".  A REPORTER invented the term "global warming" for a story, and it caught on.  Now the terms are used interchangeably by many.

You think that a reporter inventing a catchy phrase means ANYTHING about the truth of global warming?

  17. Because it is both, with warming forces far over-powering cooling forces.

  18. Because it sounds better.  They, whoever they is, always re-term words to either make them sound not as threatening or to be more politically correct.  Sanatation worker = garbage man.  See?  The climate is changing, tho.  Have you noticed that summers last longer and winters are not as cold as they were when you were a kid?  Check it out.

  19. BECAUSE gLOBAL wARMING NEVER CAME TRUE
