Why are they moms but we are bad parents?

this question is for parents that have had anything to do with cps! why is it when we see a commercial about poor people in other countries they say something like these poor women struggle everyday to feed there kids, or these kids are starving and there is nothing the parents can do, or we see the work of a mother's hands and every year we send millions of dollars to these countries. here in the U.S. if we struggle to feed our kids they are removed from the home only to be abused in foster care. when cps should not take the kids but do for us what they do for these people trying to survive elsewhere, and that is help the family get some food or help them pay a bill. but don't take anymore kids! there are too many kids dying at the hands of cps and foster care!

  1. Thats what welfare is for

  2. I am not sure what dealings you have had with cps. I am a teacher and I have dealt with them on several occasions. The only time children have been taking away from their parents is when they parents have abused them. They do look into problems when a child wears the same clothes a few days in a row without being washed or has no electricity in the middle of winter and things like that. I do agree with you though. They do need to do more to help those parents who are struggling and are willing to work and get help for themselves and their family and stop wasting money on those that abuse the help. If you are getting help from the government, then you shouldn't be wearing all name brand clothes from the mall.

  3. Here in the U.S. there are government funded programs that help. There is welfare and medical. In other countries, they don't have these programs or CPS for that matter. Some kids should be taken away. If there is abuse or neglect in the home, would it be ok to ingnore it and leave the child in a situation it has no control over?

  4. It's not CPS who is running those commercials & aid organizations for underprivileged children & families in the world.  And, there *are* aid organizations that *do* assist families in the United States.  Hundreds of them.

CPS's job is to ensure the safety of children within their jurisdiction.  And, they do it in a variety of ways.  They don't simply go in & take children away from their families.  They offer assistance, training, resources, education of all kinds.  They only remove a child from a home when they feel it is necessary.

Did you know that CPS is a government agency?  That means that voters can influence the way the agency is run, both with their votes -and- by working with their elected representatives to bring about change.  Are you doing anything to make the changes that you would like to see?

  5. If I was too poor to feed or provide for my children, I'd hope someone would take them and care for them.

  6. Poverty, in and of itself, is not a reason to remove children from a parent. Lack of the basics needed to survive is. If a parent has no way (either unwilling, unable or is in some way responsible for there being no food, shelter, etc)  to provide shelter, food, medical care, education etc. and is not willing to access services then yes, sometimes children are removed from a parent's care and placed in foster care while a parent does whatever is necessary to regain the children's custody. It is true that it is very tough to be poor in the US - there are outrageous rents being charged, minimum wage employment may mean that ends don't always meet for the whole paycheck, food may be short and other basic necessities hard or even impossible to obtain... however, children do need to be provided for minimally... food, shelter etc. If you are homeless or about to become so; have not enough food to feed all the children or yourself, can not work or get the services you need to stay home - then yes, perhaps children should be provided for by the state while you are making changes to your life that will allow these things to happen.

Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) is available to those who qualify and may come with a housing grant/access to subsidized housing, medicaid, food stamps, job training, subsidized  child-care etc. in order that the children's needs are met WITH the parent - rather than away from the parent. BUT the parent has to be willing to access the services and comply with the requirements (as draconian as they may be). In the USA there are both governmental and faith-based agencies that can assist parents in gaining access to services and resources that will assist in retaining custody of children.

Again (I answered your other question on this topic) CPS does not remove children unless there is imminent harm or danger to children by neglect or abuse. Not having any evidence of food in the house, evidence that medical conditions have gone untreated, children who are unable to attend school for long periods etc. are in fact being neglected under the legal definition.  I am sorry you seem to be tangled in something you are having trouble with - but the kids are supposed to come first and their needs have to be the most important. If basic life necessities are not readily available - then it is time that some intervention happens... for the children's and parent's sake.
