Why are they radiating the foods we eat before we buy them?

There is an experiment where you sprout as many different seeds as you want, put them in sep'rate planters, and water them with different liquids including coke, tap water and microwaved water. In the experiment, all the plants flourished except for the one watered with m/waved water, which quickly died. If microwaving water kills any nutrient value from the water, what is it doing to the value of the food?
