Why are they soo mad at me?

ok well my family gets really mad at me because i cant sleep and am sleepy all the time they keep telling me its my fault and i could sleep if i wanted to but i cant i cant sit in the dark because then i freak out i sleep better when the tv is on and i cant take a bath every night i dont like tea . i cant take sleeping pills cause dad would freak and i am only 12

  1. It sounds like you have insomnia, which isn't just a matter of saying, ok, I'm going to fall asleep now. Sleeping pills are not the answer.  Try reading at bedtime, or google insomnia and see if you find something that works for you.  If you have really tried everything possibe, ask you parents to take you to your family doctor and see if he can help. If you are not getting enough sleep, you school work will suffer, and well, you will not feel well.  good luck.


  2. Honey, what has happened to cause this?  You might be having slight panic / anxiety attacks, please go a see a doctor, your parents should talk to you about this, it is really serious.

  4. sometimes people dont understand sleep problems ,and parents get worried and they dont want you to know ,how worried they are so they get mad to hide what they are really feeling ,dont worry so much ,iam sure they love you very much.Try talking to them about going to a doctor to have you get a check up to make sure you are ok ,or some one to talk about do you have fears of the dark are you seeing things ,foods that might not agree with you ect.also try to think about what your looking forward to do the next day and that might help you sleep.good luck

  7. Do you take naps?  If you do, you need to cut that out, first and foremost.

    You need to make yourself a 'bedtime routine'.  You need to go to bed at the same time Every night (even on weekends) and you need to do the same thing for about 30-45 mins before you go to sleep every night.  Whatever your routine is, you need to do it every night.  For example, my routine is that I check my email one last time, use the bathroom, make sure my alarm is set, get a bottled water, and flip through a magazine, then go to bed.  You also need to get up at the same time every single day, even on the weekends.  Same time, every day.

    Also, your bed is for sleeping only.  Dont do other things while laying in bed such as watching tv or lounging or homework.  Bed is for sleep, and sleep only.

    Dont drink/eat any caffiene or sugar after dinner time.  That will help a lot.

    Are you on any other meds?  A lot of times some meds can cause insomnia.  For example, I have a lot of allergy and sinus issues and take Zytrec D regularly.  Sometimes, the sudafed can cause insomnia because it is an upper.  If this is a possibility, you may need to adjust what time you take your meds.

    If you lay awake for more than 20 mins, get out of bed and do something.  Make it something easy, that doesnt require thinking, but you need to get out of bed for about 10-30 mins.  Then lay back down.  If you lay for another 20 mins, get back up again.  

    And, while I most certainly dont agree with using drugs to sleep at your age, if you want to take a tylonal pm for one night or so to get this going, it will be ok.  The sleepy ingredient in tylonal pm (and advil pm as well as most over the counter sleep aids) is benedryal.  

    You may also consider a blood test at the doc to test your melatonin levels.  If you are deficient, a melatonin supplement will help greatly.

  8. parents have ways to make thre kids mad and want things in a certain way. they should not be that way at all. i moved out because my parents are very stricket and hate me and hate everything i do.
