  1. they are not

  2. You can walk around. You can say "Hi, Jack" to your friend Jack on the phone or something without alarming the people you are traveling with. Yes, trains CAN be hijacked but I don't want to discuss that part of my answer.

Also, if the engine dies you don't go plunging to your death. The scenery is up close as compared to the sceneries you see from an airplane.

Your ears' pressure  don't change drastically. Except if your train goes up a mountain and then descends.

You may be able to use your laptop and other electrical devices without interruption.

You can opt to have fresh air in some trains. =)

Some trains have cowcatchers. Show me a plane with...seagull catchers!!

  3. Trains are ok for short trips ... but I wouldn't take a train for more than 10 hrs when I could fly there in 2.5

  4. I'm not sure about 'better', but since this question draws a comparison between the two:

    6.  Trains have exhausted engineers in the cab --- a cockpit usually has rested flight crew, and on long trips there are bunks for them to get a nap in.

    7.  If a crash or collision is imminent a pilot can take evasive action.  The train crew must sit and watch it unfold, helpless.

    8.  Pilots rarely kill pedestrians or motorists.  The train crew must sit and watch it happen, helpless.

    9.  Near misses by aircraft are reportable to the FAA and compilation of the data may result in changes in Air Traffic Control systems or FARs (Federal Aviation Regulations) to improve safety.  Near misses involving trains are not required to be reported to the FRA.

    10. With a parachute available, you have a chance of bailing out of a disabled aircraft.  On a train, your choices are get crushed in the cab or jump and be crushed outside the cab.

    11. Another terrorist attack using aircraft as a medium is a slim possibility.  An attack involving a train can be happening as you're reading this.

    12. Flight attendants are pretty.  Train crews aren't.

    13. Your pilot has 1,000s of hours of flight time and hundreds more hours in flight simulators.  Your engineer may not have much experience.

    14. When departing your aircraft, a flight attended sees you out the door with a "thank you" for flying.  You are unceremoniously booted off Amtrak.

    15. On an aircraft there is in-flight entertainment.  On Amtrak there are two drunks in the bar car for entertainment.

    16. On an aircraft, you can expect the toilets usually work.  On Amtrak, it's a 'c**p shoot' (no pun intended).

    17. On an aircraft, meals are brought to your seat.  On Amtrak, you wait for a seat in the diner.

    18. On an aircraft, there is 'first class'.  On Amtrak, there is no class.

    19. Aircraft are well maintained and are subject to frequent, rigorous inspection.  Sometimes Amtrak trains have clean windows.

    20. Prior to departing, your flight attendants give you important information on how to quickly leave the aircraft in the event of an emergency.  On Amtrak you have to figure it out on your own as your coach is burning.

    21. In an aircraft, in the event of a water landing, your seat cushion becomes a flotation device.  In a passenger coach you are in a high speed submarine that can only dive.

    22. Though some air carriers are barely keeping their head above water, most all are solvent.  Amtrak has never made a dime and requires a yearly infusion of hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars.

    23. Most airports have a lounge, restaurants, magazine stand or shops.  Some Amtrak depots have heat.

    24. When making flight connections at a terminal, you may need the shuttle bus.  Amtrak is usually late enough that you wind up crammed on a bus for the last 100 miles or more of a leg your trip to make your connection.

    25. United offers "The Friendly Skies."  Sometimes Amtrak offers an "apology."

    26. In more than six decades of operation, the Australian  QANTAS Airlines is profitable, offers unbelievably good service and has never lost a single aircraft.  Amtrak should be run by QANTAS.

  5. Because they dont fall out of the sky! They just derail and kill everyone that is close by!

  6. 1. they don't fall out of the sky   And planes don't fall off the tracks and roll over.

    2. they have more room   And planes have less passengers for the most part, so the square footage per person is about the same.  Planes are several times faster than trains, and if time is money, a better value therefore.

    3. better food   I disagree.  Plus you want food on the train?  Pay for it.  Want it on the plane?  It's included.  And again more speed equals less meals that don't meet your expectations.

  7. Ok, then you go take a train from Paris to NY.

    And i'll fly,

    We'll see who gets there.

    LMAO
