Question:

Why are truck drivers so annoying on the interstates?

Why do they feel the need to pass another truck just as they are about to go uphill and slow everyone else down well below the speed limit? Dropping from 65 down to 45 and traveling at that speed for 10 minutes is maddening!

  1. lol they have to drive around all day, i'd be annoying too

  2. truck drivers like those huge semi trucks cause i hate those on the road they slow everyone down

  3. Nick is right....the speed at which a truck can pull a hill depends on how much weight he's carrying, and the power of the truck's engine.

If a truck that's lightly loaded can keep his momentum all the way up the hill, he will use less fuel than if he is forced to slow down, drop a bunch of gears and pull the hill at a slower speed with higher RPM's, stuck behind a very heavily loaded truck.

If you were paying $5 dollars per gallon for diesel in a vehicle that got 5 to 7 MPG on average....and that was your LIVELYHOOD.....and saving an extra $100 bucks that month might mean new clothes for the kids or more food for your family- you would do whatever it takes to increase your fuel efficiency TOO!

Keep in mind the average solo truck driver drives over 15,000 miles per month, over 100,000 miles per year....increasing fuel efficiency by just 1 or 2 MPG means a pretty big savings overall!

They don't do it on purpose to be annoying to car drivers.....and being inconvenienced during your pleasure trip for a mere 10 minutes is hardly the end of the world.

"Maddening"....to be slowed down for 10 minutes?  Please.  Try being away from your family for a month at a time, being delayed for HOURS at shippers and recievers, being stranded in the middle of nowhere due to a breakdown, sitting through rush hour in 2 seperate cities IN THE SAME DAY!   And then go out on the highway and deal with a bunch of inconsiderate car drivers who think that truckers are just there to ANNOY THEM.   And yet, most truck drivers wouldn't even consider these things "maddening"....it's just part of their job.  Your complaint seems pretty trivial in comparison.

These men and women are actually on the roads WORKING, and doing an important job.  The only thing not delivered by truck is a baby.....if all the trucks stopped rolling, the rest of society would be without food or supplies within 2 days.  You ought to try being grateful, instead of annoyed.

The main purpose of building the interstate highways was to make it easier for supplies to travel the country (and to enable quick military deployment in an emergency).  But they certainly weren't built just so people could take roadtrips in their cars.  Truckers pay at least 10 times more in highway taxes than car drivers do, if it weren't for them we'd have no funds for interstate highways....so if it seems like they think they "own the road"....they DO own the road.  Relax and be a little more understanding towards the people who actually have a job to do out on the highways, and you might enjoy your road trip a little more.

Not trying to be rude, just speaking the truth....maybe try a different perspective next time you take a trip?

  4. I'm with you, but I think they treat the road as just theirs as they hate 4 wheelers.  And Forest is a r****d.  Yo Forest - maybe try a different perspective next time you answer a question!

Thank you Nine, for having the courage to wear the uniform and do your duty, especially for liberal morons like forest.  Peace.

  5. 2 words

    gas prices

    good luck

  6. Truck drivers don't do that to be annoying to anyone nor are they purposely trying to slow down the traffic. They are trying to get an edge on a slower moving truck up the hill not to get stuck behind him to have to slow down, drop to lower gear and burn extra gas.

  7. Remember...those truckers are bringing the goods to stores for your convenience. They will pass another to keep up momentum so they don't slow down more. Many times they are slowed down by drivers of cars who don't give them room to pass or drive in front of them not allowing them to get a "run" at a long hill.
