  1. yours will be fine, your great grand parents, wont.

  2. this is not a form of government control - if anything this is one thing the feds are finally doing right - it will improve picture and sound quality GREATLY

  3. you wont have to get cable if you have a tv that will pick up digital signals, or you can get a converter box to attach to your tv. otherwise you will need to get cable.

  4. because they want us to go digital.

so they can torture us with more mindless tvvvv!

    :/

  5. Um they are....They just won't be recieving analog signals anymore. You simply need a converter box to get the digital signals if you don't have cable or satellite.

  6. They will work without cable, you just have to buy a $40 converter box.

  7. u don't need cable

just a tv that operates on a digital signal

or, a regular tv + a digital converter box (just bought one at Walmart for $49.97, so it was $10  after the $40 government card)

part of the reason for converting to DigitalTV is to free up part of the broadcast spectrum. These portions of broadcasting can then be used for other important services, such as public and safety services (police and fire departments, emergency rescue), and advanced wireless services.

  8. On February 17, 2009, all the TV stations are sending analog signals will be going to digital then to free up the frequencies for new technologies that will use the frequencies the old analog uses. A digital box can be purchased to your current set and VCR to pick up the analog signal. TVs themselves will still work, but need the converter box. If you chose not to get the box, the TV can still be used for video game systems, VCR, DVD player and any other audio/video device.

  9. because the airways are switching to all digital.

  10. Because they are switching to HDtv. You don't have to get a new Tv. You can get a box that your cable company will offer when it's time.

  11. only if you dont have a digital tv

then you need a 60 dollar adapter

the government doesnt give a **** about the TV you watch

  12. Because digitial gives you clearer picture so really its a good thing.

You don't need cable you just need a digital box.

  13. You just need a converter box, not cable. This is because TV are made to pick up an analog signal coming into your home via the airwaves. You're TV is like a radio and picks up those signals via an internal antenna.

In 2009 TV stations will no longer send that signal over the air. Therefore, you will have to get the signal digitally, through cable or satellite.

Personal Note: Now they can tell exactly what you watch at any time. YouTube.com just gave all their users' info to Viacom, a major studio.

  14. satalite will work too and some areas might still be on analog by then

and there will be freeview so you wont need to pay

  15. check out dtv.gov for more info

  16. Here's what info I could find:

Why Are Broadcast TV Stations Switching to All-Digital?

Congress mandated the conversion to all-digital television broadcasting, also known as the digital television (DTV) transition, because all-digital broadcasting will free up frequencies for public safety communications (such as police, fire, and emergency rescue). Also, digital is a more efficient transmission technology that allows broadcast stations to offer improved picture and sound quality, as well as offer more programming options for consumers through multiple broadcast streams (multicasting). In addition, some of the freed up frequencies will be used for advanced commercial wireless services for consumers.

What Do I Need To Do To Be Ready For The DTV Transition?

What you need to do depends on the source of your television programming, whether you receive programming over-the-air or from a paid provider such as a cable or satellite TV company.

How Do I Receive Digital Broadcasts If I Don’t Subscribe To Cable Or Satellite?

If you receive only free over-the-air television programming, the type of TV you own, either a digital TV or an analog TV, is very important. Consumers who receive only free over-the-air television may view digital programming through a TV set with a built-in digital tuner (integrated DTV) or a digital-ready monitor with a separate digital tuner set-top box. (Both of these digital television types are referred to as a DTV). The only additional equipment required to view over-the-air digital programming with a DTV is a regular antenna, either on your roof or a smaller version on your TV such as “rabbit ears.”
