Because they're imaginary and therefore can be as beautiful and seductive as you like.  The whole idea of a vampire is something forbidden, exotic, and otherworldly.

If they were real and therefore farted, had bad hair days, and were prone to road rage during the rush hour, they wouldn't half so appealing.

Because that is the archetype.  Stoker's Dracula was filled with sexual references and innuendo.  So all vampires from then on are the same.

Since Bram Stoker, the Vampire mythology has always involved the vampire hypnotising or seducing his victim, generally it's a man seducing a woman. Moreover, the association between s*x and death goes back to renaissance times, and influences the Romance literature tradition, which shaped the vampire mythos.

IOW, it's *always* been about s*x. It's not us projecting our desires onto them, it's that they were written in a way that was designed to evoke forbidden sexual desires.

The idea of the vampire as a tragic hero started with Bram Stoker's novel Dracula.  This evolved into a widespread vampire phenomina.  The closest thing to folklorically accurate vampires that has been produced since then is the 1922 silent film Nosferatu.

Historically, if you actually delve into the folklore and mythos of the vampire, there is nothing seductive about them.  In many cultures, the vampire is a walking corpse, decaying slowly, that rises from it's grave to feast upon the flesh and blood of the living.  Other cultures say that while humanoid, the vampiric creature is a sub-species of demon spawn.  Nothing at all about any of these legends is seductive.  For a brief but well researched look into many of the pre-Stoker stories, I recommend Jonathan Mayberry's "Vampire Universe" and "Cryptopedia"

Hello. I am a paranormal investigator, and I just want to tell you, there is nothing dark or seductive about real vampires. Now, a real vampire is created when a demonic or a malevolent spirit possesses a corpse. The body turns into a vampire, but is not alive and therefore can't do any damage. But the demon, as soon as it takes control, it can control that body, manipulate it. A vampire isn't what people say they are, there are no "psi" vampires or even people who drink blood..Well ,there are, but they are not vampires...They are usually teenagers who are bored with their lives, and the "psi"'s, they are people with great psychic potential that throw it all away just to become a "fake vampire"...
