Question:

Why are vehicles built in with high speeds?

In New Zealand the fastest you can go is 100k's and this is only on the motorway. Any faster than this and the police would be on your tail. I know there are some country's out there whom let you exceed 100k's and have their own speed regulations but I highly doubt anyone has a speed allowance of 150k+. These speeds are horrific. Why are vehicles built to these large speeds when we know there unsafe and are just looking for trouble.

Thanks

  1. the same reason i put $20000 in my 1996 camaro Z28 with LT1 5.7 I HAD THE ENGINE REBUILT FROM TOP TO BOTTOM RACING TRANS. 4;10 RACING GEARS IN REAR END AND A 125HP SHOT OF NITROUS I TAKE IT TO THE TRACK MAYBE ONCE A MONTH TO OPEN IT UP THE REST OF THE TIME I TAKE THE T TOPS OFF ON A SUNDAY AFTER NOON CRANK UP MY BOISE STEREO AND ME AND MY WIFE CRUISE THE BEACHES I JUST LIKE THE FACT THAT I KNOW HOW FAST IT IS I LIVE IN FL. SO BEACHES ARE REALLY NICE BUT I GUESS IM ALSO GOING THOUGH MY MIDLIFE CRISES IM 49 AND ALWAYS WANTED A FAST CAR JUST TO HAVE ONE         sorry this is in caps i just realized it and it takes me forever to type

  2. It is very simple.................

    "SPEED SELLS CARS"

  3. For Sales

  4. its personal freedom. its not a car companys job to worry about enforcing speed laws. and in a dangerous situation sometimes you need the speed to get away. and on the autobon there is no speed limit at all. and the accident rate is pretty even to the regular highway accident rate. its not speed that causes accidents, its reaction time, most accidents happen on the street, close to home, not on the highway

  5. Cars that are capable of 200+ kph are not necessarily designed with those speeds in mind. They just happen to be capable of that speed, but operate most efficiently at 90-100k. If the engine did not have that power, it would not be able to accelerate to the extent that drivers today demand. If you can live with less power and acceleration, great. The old VW beetles of the 40s and 50s had less than 50 horsepower, and the Citroen 2CV had even less than that. The big downside to them was that they took forever to get up to highway speed, and today would never be able to operate safely on a freeway.

  6. The automakers have to sell what people will buy.

  7. people build these vehicles for high speed because some people just like fast cars. I know this is unsafe. i agree

  8. By the way a car that maxes at 180 will be MUCH safer at 80 MPH(or whatever a quick highway speed is) than something that tops out at 95. I remember my moms Tercel would shake if we went above 80.

  9. I had a friend that I stopped going anywhere with him in his car. Jeez Louise I had to put on a G-Suit before I got in the car to keep my blood from boiling and passing out when he stepped on the accelerator. Talk about a fast driver and a really fast sports car. In answer to your question muscle cars have always been popular. It has always been a strong selling feature and always be one for those that can afford to drive them. Fast and skill full driving is admired by many people. All you have to do is look and the popularity of Nascar. Just think of all the movies that are made featuring fast driving and auto wrecks. Sure Its idiotic to drive this way except under highly controled circumstances. Its just a lot of people think its glamorious. Though I am sure that this behavior is reckless most of us do reckless things.

  10. because fast cars attract customers?

  11. some car companies think that people will buy that kind of stuff such as street racers, rich/famous people

  12. As cars get older they get slower for one.

QAlso if you have a car that can only do 100 kph going up hill would be a problem as would towing. there fore they have to make them with more power than the neen.

Its then just up to the driver if its you or me then ok. but some idiots have to just push everything.

Also cars are built for other countries not just slow 100 kph NZ

  13. well actually the autobahn in Germany doesnt have a speed limit at all and it records less crashes then road with speed limits.

  14. simply for bragging rights

thats pretty much what it is all about.

my car goes 185 MPH, but so far ive never had to go that fast and doubt i ever will. but its cool to be like "yea my car tops out at 185"
