In most restaurants, no matter how busy it is, severs seem to always be in a hurry. After they take your order they seem to be in a big hurry to go somehwere. This happens even when restaurants are pratically empty. WHAT IS THE BIG HURRY??

  1. Not in the restaurant I go to.  Slow as snails.

  2. because the chef person makes a lot of food in a hurry and it piles up

  3. They don't want to give you enough time to ask for something that will inconvenience them.

I have a friend who, even at a buffet, will ask the server for a new set of silverware every time he finishes his plate. One time, the server gave him 10 forks just so she wouldn't have to be bothered by his repeated requests.

With a friend like mine, I can understand why servers are always in a "rush"... Even when the restaurant is empty. Customers can get really annoying sometimes.

  4. becausetheyhaveplacestobeandthingstodoan...

Have you ever played Diner Dash???

You have to take orders and seat people and stuff!

In other words, I HAVE NO CLUE!!! I'm just conjecturing!

  5. The faster they get your food order in, the sooner they get rid of you.  Plus, I hustled because people liked to see me WORK for them.  I also hung out and BS'd with people when they wanted me to.

Otherwise, I felt like I was intruding on someone else's conversation.  I tried to get in and out quickly.

  6. Most of the time they want to go home or talk on the phone with a boyfriend/girlfriend.

  7. the restroom

  8. They will get fired if they don't hussle.

  9. that kind of job is stressful and gets you in high gear i guess

  10. most people want there food quickly so they rush to get the order moving. also they ussualy have other work to do to prpare for or clean up from the busy times

  11. whatever do you mean? Im sure they have at least one other table to tend to when its slow, and no one wants cold food right. Did you want them to hang out at your table or something. Im only kidding I dont know what the hurry is actually

  12. Wow, you've obviously never worked in a restaurant before. First of all, customers often have a warped perception of time - meaning that if they wait 2 minutes for a drink, they think it's been 20, and if they wait 8 minutes for an appetizer, they feel like it's been 30. So first of all, the server wants to get your food and drink orders in, so that you don't complain.

Second, there's a lot going on behind the scenes at a restaurant. The server has what's called running side work, which include sweeping, filling ice bins, answering the phone, packing up to-go orders, making sure dressings and condiments are filled, bringing out plates and glassware, running other servers' food, etc.

Third, you are usually not their only table. Everything they do for you, they have to do for the other tables as well. This includes taking other orders, bringing drinks / bread / apps / dinner / desserts, running back and forth for refills and extra condiments, and making sure everyone's happy.

You should be happy to have a speedy server. It means they're on the ball. The server, however, should not make the guest feel rushed (unless the guest has been occupying the table for waaaay too long).

  13. They don't want you to wait and to leave them a big tip.

  14. well its extremely hectic when its busy, and even if its not, do you want the waiter to sit down with you and your girlfriend to discuss current events with you? thats why you go to dinner with people, and not by yourself!!

  15. would your complaint be bigger if they took their sweet time putting in your order and it took forever for you to get water and your salad, etc.? they're in a hurry bc they're trying to get you your food.

  16. Besides waiting on the patrons, waitresses have to wrap the silverware, make the coffee, do cleaning chores, and other assigned duties.  It isn't all just setting food on the table.

  17. Some restaurants want the customers to come in, order, be served, and leave as soon as possible.  Faster turnover rates mean more customers and ultimately more money.  Also, many customers are in a hurry, such as those on a lunch break, and they need to be served and eat in a short amount of time.

  18. lol sweetie I'm a waitress, and when it's dead where I work I rush to get the order in so I don't keep the customers waiting, after that I take my sweet time cleaning or what not until the food is up and rush again! lol
