  1. Because seas and oceans is an open area and has a capacity to produced waves. Oceans can accumulates that waves because of the gravity of the soil in water while rivers or pond cant because they cannot accumulate the waves came from the gravity.

  2. Waves are in fact produced in rivers and ponds.  They may be smaller, but they are there, especially when there is wind or something is moving through the water.  That is, waves are normal for any size body of water when it is disturbed.

  3. Waves are produced in a lake, but they're much smaller. Because the ocean is a much larger body of water, forces such as wind, currents, and tide can act upon waves for much longer time, causing them to gain large amplitudes.

  4. Interesting!!

  5. Waves are produced by wind pushing the water towards the shore. In seas and oceans, the wind has a greater surface area to push and thus the waves are very noticeable. In a river or pond, there is simply not enough surface area for the wind to make any significant waves.
