Why are we (Americans) okay with the fact that gas will cost $4/gallon?

why are we Americans learning to accept the fact that we are paying more for just about everything now? i pay more every time i shop for groceries and i end up going shopping more frequently because my fridge runs out of food rather quickly. one reason for this may be because i dont go out to eat or bring fast food (burgers, carry out, chicken, chinese, pizza, take out, etc.) home with me anymore (just about every fast food place i know has ditched their dollar/99 cents value meal menus). i have to clip coupons from my sunday newspaper like an old lady! i stopped by my local gas station today to refuel my car. before i started pumping it though, i saw from the reading that the person who was there before i got there had paid over $80 for his gas. WTF?! now im hearing from the consumers section of the daily newspaper that toyota is raising the base prices of their cars (not that i care)? can anyone please explain why we Americans arent bothering to do about it? Stop ignoring it, fix it!

  1. wht cha goin to do you only have two choices you buy a bike and ride it to the store and work....or go to your nieghbors and steal there gas.....other wise deal with it

  2. if i knew how i would fix it

  3. Come over here (england).  Petrol and diesel are both now over £5 per gallon ($10).  You guys have had it too easy for years!  (no, I'm not criticising you).

  4. We are not OK with it.The average person on the street can do nothing to fix it.We all have to make some adjustments its going to be a rough ride I think. But I do believe the spectators on wall street need some jail time.Does anyone now beleive that supply and demand which we have been told for months is the cause?I do not.I never did.I am beginning to see that there is a way but it will for sure ruin our economy what's left of it.

  5. I'm wondering the same thing. People just go on with their lives knowing that they are getting ripped off and not doing anything about it.  It is such a bad economics problem because gas is such an important thing to so many workers and d**n milk and necessities have become so expensive. I don't know why we don't do something about it.

  6. I don't think that anyone is OK with it at all. The reality is that there are only two ways to bring about an effective change in the price of gasoline. We need to either  increase production or reduce demand (or both). Because India and China are developing at an alarming rate and therefore are demanding a substantial share of the worlds oil supply the cost of crude oil reflects that demand. Unless the US oil companies choose to invest in new production facilities, and the US government chooses to support that venture the production levels will not change. This leaves the only remaining option to reduce demand (dramatically).
