Question:

Why are we having reception problems with BBC1?

Since yesterday, we have had problems with the picture on (terrestial) BBC1 being quite snowy. This is on our main tv which is connected to an aerial in the loft. The other channels seem fine, although Channels 4 and 5 don't seem quite as clear and sharp as normal. There are no such problems with the picture on the other TVs in our house that have their own aerials.

Could this be a problem with our main aerial? (I would have expected all the channels to be affected if this was the case.) Or could it be due to the warm weather or a transmitter problem? (I checked the BBC site and there are no reports of works on our transmitter in Sutton Coldfield.)

We do have digital and sky TV, and they both work fine.

Has anyone else had such problems?

  1. its called high pressure. its a meteorological phenomenon which can affect TV reception

PS: please learn what the word 'synopsis' means; most of us don't have time for a question longer than 3 sentences

  2. Not sure what was the last time you had your aerial checked/upgraded as you need this atleast once in 5yrs. and if you are just using analogue tv you may be having transtional issue due to fault on your local broadcasting transmitter. not all channels uses the same frequency and their bandwidth varies. check if there is any planned transmitter maintainance in your area by going to http://www.bbc.co.uk/reception/transmitt... where you can check this. have you considered switching to digital if you haven't yet? check your digital coverage by going to digitaluk.co.uk before you switch to digital and it is very cheap to do it. all you need is a freeview digibox and you can buy them for as low as £15.00! or you can buy a integrated digital tv. but must make sure you check coverage before. not all areas getting digital yet and digital service is better and you have a better likelyhood of getting more channels. finally check your connections & retune your tv, if you use a vcr or ohter type of recorder make sure it is switched on at all times and if not recording worth connectiong aerial lead directly on the back of the tv's Rf input for better flow of signal.

** sky uses satelite tranmission and often better in in most uk areas pictures very good too again check with digitaluk.co.uk on this. read a little about sky's freesat which comes in a package with installation and lots of channels with one off payment and no more monthly subcriptions unless you choose to do so.

problem you are having may not last as long as aerial is ok. Good luck.

    Thanks
