Why are we humans so arrogant as to think that today we are closer then ever to uncovering the Truth...?

Especially with modern science many think that now we have found the or the base of the one and only true realistic method of approaching life, i.e. objective.

Think throughout history and all of the 'crazy' ideas people have lived and shaped their lives after by taking them as truths of our reality. Think or Valhalla, the gods of the Greeks and Romans, catholic and Christians, Ra, Vishnu etc.

I am sure they all felt they had touched upon 'IT', just as we feel we have today as well, yet how can we be sure?

500, 1000, 2000 years from now people may look back and consider us to be primitives and naive, why are we so arrogant in ourselves today, especially since we now have been here for some time and have historical documentation of past times and their understandings, what makes us believe today that we are close to the truth or on the right path, what are we comparing our knowledge with?

especially since we have eliminated transcendental realms were we can "tap" into and compare?

  1. As all scientific conclusions remain permanently open to revision and refutation, meaning that the possibility of them being wrong is built into the methodology and fully recognised, I think you must've misunderstood how science actually works.

  2. Many people believe things based on faith alone, with no real evidence.   Even when presented with evidence, they will not consider it if it does not agree with what they already believe.   Also, in case you haven't noticed it, there are many people who are either not very well educated or are not very intelligent.    I seem to run into some of these frequently. One fellow living nearby insists that the Earth is only 6 or 7 thousand years old.  I don't think we are very close to knowing the Truth as you call it.   Maybe we never will.

  3. While there is no particular proof that we aren't going to be looked back on by future civilizations with a "Ha, weren't they silly for believing that", we really have no choice but to proceed with the best information and methods we have available.

Second-guessing ourselves is good, because that is part of how we make the next leap, but decrying all progress because there might be something better discovered in the future is pointless.

One thing that we can say is that we are closer.  We haven't found out the Whole Truth of the Universe, or all of the answers to Life, but we are progressing towards understanding more and more.  It might be that this is a journey that we will never fully complete.  In fact, it's likely that we won't ever have all of the answers.  Would you cease trying to live just because one day you will die?  Would you stop trying to improve your life because it will never be perfect?
